AVC is better quality than HEVC.
Get this instead.
File size is worthless nowadays... there are 2TB HDD sold cheap..

I was a bit worried when I saw my 2TB drive near full with anime, checked prices: Under £50 for a new one, top brand from a reputable high street store. £50, that is insane, no more deleting old shows to make room for new ones!

Encoders are braindead nowdays. Needlessly bloating filesizes when it should go in the opposite direction.

A lot of hardware can not play AV1, just like when HEVC was new and you needed a software player to make it work.
It will be a few years before the hardware catches up to AV1 and that's why most encoders are avoiding it.

No matter how I configure my mediaplayers I cannot get HEVC to look/sound anywhere near decent. I have given up on it completely, thankfully its only the smaller sub groups that seem to be using it.

Advanced Video Codec (AVC) - can be play smoothly by most devices even without even rely on a proper graphic card.
High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) - can be play smoothly play on PC/laptop that have a a proper graphic card Exp: Nvidia.
AOMedia Video 1 (AV1) - new type format encoding but still in experimental. can be play on PC but need a proper graphic card and at least more than 4gb ram in your PC. (my experience on laptop Acer Nitro 5 )

btw I recommend using VLC or potplayer software to play video.
PS: in comparison on video compression, AV1 is better than HEVC and AVC.
