Hey, could anyone who already downloaded either of these from the same encoder (iAHD):

https://animetosho.org/view/sword-art-...u.n1100938
https://animetosho.org/view/sword-art-...0p.d252333

reseed these or upload them to a file hosting site
Thanks

nope. much better options than quick handbrake usbd encodes with bad settings.

Fact check: True.

True or not, I like to have multiple different sources, I have [KH] currently but also want the iAHD which are 2-3x more space efficient for my phone
14/01/2023 23:30 — Anonymous
iAHD is also 2-3x worse
15/01/2023 01:54 — admin
Out of curiosity, how does one come up with that figure?
Is there some sort of numerical "bad" score, which is 2-3x higher than the alternative's "bad" score?
15/01/2023 20:42 — Anonymous
I based those figures on iAHD's encoding blunders:
1. Inferior source (US Blu-Ray)
2. Subpar encoding settings (mbtree, cutree, crf, psy, sao...)
3. Outdated encoder builds
*4. Bad encode with lossless audio

ofc a mere comment cannot coerce people into downloading something, but it's extremely useful to know how to identify bad encodes

Appreciate the explanation.
I can see your reasoning behind your claim of "worse", but I'm actually more interested in how you derived the "2-3x" part. Why is it that, and not, say, "100x" or "0.2x"?

I'm also interested about your other points - if you don't mind my curiosity:

1. what would you consider to be the superior source, and to what extent would it affect the encoded output?
2. what is subpar about those settings, and to what extent do they affect the output compared to the settings you'd choose?
3. how much of a difference is there between the build used and the current latest build?
4. decision to include lossless audio sounds more like a personal preference? Or is there some objective metric to judge where it's appropriate?

Sorry if the questions seem nit-picky, but clarity helps build strong points :)
Thanks!

1. Blu-Rays released by american companies (Viz, Sentai, etc..) are almost always inferior to japanese blu-rays, as USBDs tend to have more episodes per disc which reduces the bitrate of the episodes
2. The values used in parameters dictating bitrate allocation such as "crf" are higher than what is generally accepted for a high quality encode (15 and below), although the difference seems minute here, minor changes in this value with "action content" can greatly affect the output.
3. Using older encoder builds results in vulnerability to it's flaws, such as improper motion vector quantization which may sometimes result in a corrupted output.
*4. I added the asterisk to indicate it's not something directly correlated to the video, but rather the choice to include audio tracks which make up 30%-40% of the file,

This is a dual audio request, which is something you obviously don't value, hence the USBD.  It illustrates why people never ask for or want any advice from people like you: people know their own circumstances and what they value, hence their preferences and what they request.

I'm glad admin is admin.  Don't make the mistake of thinking admin doesn't know a lot more about these things than you do.

You can add the dub to a JPBD encode all the same... which is what a lot of encode groups do in fact.

Audio is one of the easiest things to add to any release.

1. From the way you phrased that, I take it that this is based off some prior knowledge rather than actually comparing the specific sources here?

2. Thanks for your opinion on CRF - why is 15 specifically the threshold, but not 16? The numbers don't seem that far apart, and if 15 is just some arbitrary figure, one might assume someone could have a different preference?
If you don't mind getting into more detail, it would be interesting to hear your opinion on the other settings you alluded to.

3. Did you find any corruption in this release? If so, would this mean that all encodes using x265 3.2.1 (version from mediainfo) in the past, potentially also contain such corruption?
Looking through the changelog, I can't see any claims of changes to MVQ or similar, since version 3.2. Is there something I've missed?

4. I see. My personal gripe here is actually the usage of PCM. Lossless is fine if that's one's preference, but I see little reason to use PCM.

Interesting. I guess if you are on the move a lot a phone and smaller files is an option. I prefer the larger sized and keep all my anime on a hard drive. I have around 16tb of anime currently. Usually delete what Ive watched or would be a lot more.

On a 6-7" mobile screen you can't see the difference.
If you can, all the more to you
