hey how do you extract the tz files?
my pc says there aren't any files to extract :(
19/11/2012 09:29 — Anonymous
The two halves of the file have to be joined together before any files can be extracted (The original file was split to get under size limits of the download services).  Here's how to join and extract the files:

1. Download and install the free open-source zip utility 7-zip from:

http://www.7-zip.org/

(It's a very well-known utility)

2. Download both parts of the anime,
[Ani-HL]_True_Tears_[BD_720p].7z.001
[Ani-HL]_True_Tears_[BD_720p].7z.002

Note: Both parts usually need to be downloaded from the same service, like both from Peejeshare

3. Sort the directory by name so they are next to each other, then highlight both with your mouse, right click and choose "7-zip, Extract Here"

Here's the list of files you should then find in that directory when 7-zip is finished:

also, you may have to run 7-zip once to join the two parts, and then run it again on the joined file to extract it's contents.  I forget if 7-zip does both in one run or it's a two-step like I just described.

I don't know why, but this torrent has been deleted from Nyaa.
19/11/2012 11:06 — Anonymous
Oh great :D I didn't expect to have replies this quick... kinda half gave up on gaining answers when i posted it...
I'm a mac-user so i had to find some other application that works on mac, and found The Unarchiver; which said it handles 7z archives. But it kept showing error that the file is incomplete; cannot be extracted etc.

And then i spotted your note about how both of the segment files have to be downloaded from the same service site. I had to drop part 2 from Freakshare (since Peejeshare was down).

And yeah, indeed the torrent file on Nyaa seems to be removed.

*Live* Nevermind.. i think it seems to be extracting both files without any issues after i aligned the name of the 2nd part with the 1st one...  Finally the 7z file has been revealed... (with the appropriate file size!)
19/11/2012 11:10 — Anonymous
Nope. Failed.

Got this notification when i tried to extract it. ↓
Unexpected end of file (Error #-39)

You sure the original file isn't partly damaged or anything? o_O
19/11/2012 12:43 — Anonymous
It could have been damaged.  Since the links are dead and torrent gone, we can't check.  But here's what I think:

I think the files are, or were ok, probably.  One reason is if you click on the file name on this page you'll see a listing of the archive generated here at AT.  If the original file were corrupt when it arrived, it should show here.  But it still could have been corrupted at the download service.

One other item to note is that 7-zip says it only generates 6 error codes: 0, 1,2,7,8,255 (None, Non-Fatal, Fatal, Command Line, Memory Limit, User Terminated).  An unexpected end of file error is more likely OS generated, I think.  I recall having EOF problems between my macs and pc's a long time ago.  Back then, there was a something like an extended ascii control character that had to be appended or removed from the end of some files.  But that was a long time ago.  I sort of can and sort of can't believe it could still be a problem today, but it is probably more possible with zip utilities.

A few suggestions:
1. Put a copy of the two file parts and 7-zip on a flash drive and try to assemble them on a pc somewhere else.  A friend, or ...(Note: Store demo models may be more likely to let you install 7-zip than school and public libraries.)

2. It would be irritating to waste your previous downloads, but what about downloading a different but good but bigger version of this show?

http://chauthanh.info/animeDownload/an...Tears.html

Coalgirls: Episode 1 was 325MB.  There are 13 episodes.  Chauthanh for non-members is 100k – 300k/sec, but you have to use a download manager as it often drops the connection and needs auto-resume.
3. The only other thing I can think of is the 7-zip web-page might have something more about macs.  Or maybe a more commercial product like WinZip manage.  Or maybe a mac based zip utility?  It should be set up to deal with pc issues.  But I wouldn't take a lot of time on this, as we really don't know if the files were ok to start with.
19/11/2012 12:50 — Anonymous
I just noticed that Chauthanh has the Thora version also.  It's probably the best of any, but starts at 500MB for ep1 and ends at 900MB at ep13, I think.

You could also wait for another mini-mkv re-encode to come thru here, of course.
19/11/2012 12:57 — Anonymous
Whoops.  I see you were using a mac zip utility, the unarchiver.  That explains the error code of -39.  It also means I actually fell asleep an hour ago and am sleep-typing.

No good can come of this.  I had better quit while I'm behind.
19/11/2012 13:05 — Anonymous
Well, one more.  7-zip made some big changes recently, so a version 3 months old won't work on current archives.  If you can update your mac unarchiver to it's latest version maybe that will work.

Sorry about all the useless stuff above.  Now I'll have to change my name again.
19/11/2012 14:14 — Anonymous
Hey, thanks for all the detailed explanation. Haha i see you've missed out on my mac-user statement. Btw, i've tried the other extracting device like Stuffit, Entropy, and some others but they all ended up in the same result. D: It's fine until it combines and merges into one "7z" file, the problem occurs after that, when you try to extract the content of the archive. Saying it's incomplete. I've tried re-downloading each parts multiple times but the result didn't change, so i'm guessing there could've been an error during the uploading process, which resulted in a corruption of the file. Or at least the one on freakshare is pointless. OH both Rapidshare files are GONE too. That's something to add.

Well, i'll try scavenging for mac-free apps that are 7-zip related.. :S Just for confirmation, I'll use my other windows pc and see if it extracts fine there. If not, then the cause i indicated above should be the probable case.

Sure you could wait for the mini-mkv releases... but we don't know when the time will come and I can't stick and observe this forum forever :\

Btw, i thought i should change my name from all the crowded businesses we have here... it's getting hard to follow along. lol.

Parts between services are generally not interchangeable because they may split at different places. The automated upload process isn't smart enough to figure out that there's an equal number of parts amongst services and use the same split threshold.
It looks like this just failed to upload to most places (and links died quick) so unless you're willing to try to get the file via magnet link, it's probably inaccessible unfortunately.

I may look into trying to do something to have more consistent split points to allow you to take parts from different services.
20/11/2012 04:53 — Anonymous
Thanks for the reply.

Right, so technically unless one of the downloaders reuploads it somewhere, it's genuinely inaccessible.

Unfortunately, the magnet link has died out mostly already. It would probably take years to fetch it :D
20/11/2012 08:55 — admin
Ah, the magnet tracks off Nyaa's tracker. And conveniently the website gives a suspended error.
Yeah, looks difficult unfortunately.

PeejeShare splits at 1000MB whereas Freakshare splits at 1024MB, so you'd be missing 24MB of data between the two parts.
I should be using smaller split thresholds as it seems that larger uploads fail more often.
But unfortunately there's not much that can be done about this file. At best, you may be able to recover some files from within the first part.
21/11/2012 02:47 — Anonymous
I've actually found another alternate magnet link which miraculously has 1 seeder, but it'll take some time either way...

If only the other PJshare part was functioning... :s  Now we're not sure if the 1st one or the 2nd one is corrupted, or it could be both of 'em. You don't think the original sharer of this file is still lurking around somewhere do you? And btw, i did try to recover some files from the 1st 7z archive, but it keeps indicating that the file is incomplete and therefore cannot be extracted. So i bet there's something wrong with the 1st data file somewhere, but again we cannot confirm it since the links have died out already.

Ugh, guess i'll have to depend on the current torrent link... dunno how long it'll take though.
Wish there were at least 1 more seeder though, 1-1 peer has its limits.

Your persistence is most impressive.

1. When files are archived, some of the information about each file is stored at the end of the archive, so it's not like the first part contains half of the episodes, but instead a part of all of the episodes.  At least, that's how the format used to be.  Nice try, though.

2. The guy who put out the torrent had a note saying he planned to shut down his website in October.  That was two days ago.  Today it appears to be gone, at least for the moment.  He had some bitter thoughts to share at the end, sorry to say.

3. I had a bot check around a bunch of download services and this version isn't to be found anywhere.  So your one seed magnet may be all there is.

Your persistence has inspired me to download the Thora version and give this series another try.  The quality of the translation can make a huge difference, and I'm not sure what version I watched the first time.

In case TT disappoints, I'll recommend an overlooked favorite of mine, "Sora no Woto".  It's about growing up.  It has great story-telling and a satisfying end.
21/11/2012 08:10 — Anonymous
Hey, this is all i've got to depend on, so my persistence isn't really intentional. Furthermore, it's still better than surfing through the net searching every possible keyword, scrolling through pages and pages. Now that's nerve-wrecking. :p
Right now it's about half done, but it decreased its transfer speed to less than 1kb, so still hanging around in the bottom. Haha, if only i had the skills and knowledge to handle encodes, i wouldn't be searching around for links. :)  I'm a mac-user so that accelerates my unwillingness to learn.

TT has a beautiful plot and graphics so i really wanna stick with this in their best quality. I've heard and (think) watched some parts of Sora no Woto, lost track of it somewhere and dropped it. Probably will get back to it soon again.

For a real fan, an extra step.  I make it a rule to not mention other websites, but HQ mini-mkv like this (60 – 100MB per episode) is a special sub-group of anime.  Here's the address for the oldest and biggest mini-mkv fansub site I know of.  It claims 5800 such titles, including 2 different HQ versions of TT.

http://minitheatre.org/

The downloads are free, but these guys have gotten fussy in their dotage and now require registration.  In case your current effort dies at 98% completion the day before Christmas.

I'm assuming that I correctly understand you to be a fan of both HQ anime and very small file sizes?
At 7.42GB, the Thora encode is really, really nice.  At about one half that size, the Coalgirls is nice but not as nice.  I just watched ep1 of both.  At 1.2GB, mini-mkv's can be...remarkably good, considering.
21/11/2012 11:46 — Anonymous
Haha Thanks for the info, but i'm already a member of MT. I guess i'm just too lazy to read the encoding procedures. MT these days are facing deadly problems though.. from all the banning rush. Yup you got it correct. I was initially collecting the normal fansub releases until when i met the mini-encodes one day, and decided to replace my entire collection to save disk space. But i still keep the original collection.

THORA made a better impression on me compared to the Coalgirls release. And i frequently take ordered chapters into account if they're available, but you don't spot them as much. Though i wish they (as in the original BD manufacturer) kept the staff rolls in the OP & ED images... it looks so deficient and empty.
