not sure why, but it seems that this type of mkv file only plays on VLC media player for me, whereas MPC media player classic typically does the job... did I miss an update or what are other people using to play this file?

BTW, freakin love the open!

if you're using mpc-hc you can probably keep it up to date with k-lite, mpc-hc being a completed project.  the other flavors of mpc like black should still be updating on their own.

-works as is with potplayer and mpv.

It uses AV1 video, so I assume you're using an outdated MPC-HC build.

MPC-HC is dead anyways. The devs all quit the project and the only updates happening for it are just updating the LAV Filters, which you can do yourself.

Stick with mpv and you're good.

not sure what you mean, it's a mkv video. - Not even completely sure that avi was the source material as rare as avi files are nowadays... would be nice if the original encoder / poster of this file were to chime in and speak up, but I doubt they even check these comments / messages.

The encode is AV1.  Wiki it.

BTW  read that as av one

AV1 is not AVI.

AV1 is a new codec with actual real compression gains and benefits unlike HEVC.

couldn't they have named av1 something else to avoid the confusion? seems like a silly oversight. - Like... "I drive a Ford." " You drive a ford?" "No, a Ford." "Yeah, totally different thing." - Good thing we're not talking about two different things that are both of in the same realm of audio-visual files and players and the like, LOL. yes, there should have been a different name to avoid confusion!
