Fuck Trix and his optional audio elsewhere bullshit

AV1 all the way!
Getting more insulting each time eh? I'm already benevolent enough to go out of my way to provide these dubs, even if externally, as I personally don't listen to them. I'm a subs enjoyer and I do my releases first and foremost for myself. Sharing to others is my second pleasure.
So as a reward for your kindness, here are DDLs of the optional dubs for that release:

Unfortunately there are always some ungrateful bastards out there 😔 This is life! 😑 We should just ignore them 😎

ok, Trix.

Apparently you don't get it. Literally 100% of every other poster that has offered dual audio with English dub (has and always has) provides both audios in the file posted here. Trix goes out of his way to make sure the dub isn't offered here. He callas it optional audio and you have to get the optional dub at Nyaa via torrent. Literally he is the only one that's ever pulled that crap here and he keeps doing the same thing no matter how many people here have stated its messed up. Hes as bad as people who put watermarks in anime to promote themselves.

We are appalled to see sentiments such as these becoming commonplace. "Undeserved entitlement" would not suffice to describe the rudeness and immaturity we are seeing here. We implore you to consider, that despite the anonymity that has given us freedom to criticize, that there is indeed another human on the other side of the screen. Nevertheless, we offer an opportunity to learn and gain perspective into this whole ecosystem as we believe you are capable of greater understanding.

To put it succinctly for those of you short on time, no provider (Encoder/Uploader, Nyaa, AnimeTosho or otherwise) has anything substantial to gain from doing any of this. We are all "going out of our way" at variably potential risk to provide as much as we can simply for the sake of your convenience. If you saw the word "convenience" there and felt inconvenienced or offended at how us providers handle/deliver data, please reconsider that we expend great energy, time, and resources to compile several sources simply for this convenience that we gain nothing substantial from. More succinctly, without these conveniences we all have nearly nothing else at this "price point" (Zero.) and are forced to rely on DRM-controlled and profit-driven services which we'll cover in the next section.

The typical service will restrict the audio (and even the subtitle) tracks to languages to the region they serve and as such the users have no say in the matter. We are not suggesting that this is acceptable/agreeable for our preferences, but we must consider the cost and benefit of doing so. Retrieving all of these tracks is a hassle that not even we (Sav1or) are dedicated or skilled enough to do. We should be appreciative of the fact that someone has done so in the first place, regardless of how inconvenient it may be to retrieve for a subset of users. For AV1 in particular, the intended audience usually benefits greatly from smaller download sizes and separating relatively uncommonly used audio languages provides even greater benefit and flexibility. Consider what is theoretically more convenient for bandwidth-limited users: a 300mb video and 40mb of audio or a 300mb video and 320mb of audio? Back to our typical service provider analogy, imagine dealing with a buffering stream that could be resolved with just serving a single audio track instead of all of them. Hence, it is far more common in industry to see separate files each potentially with their own DRM as opposed to the convenient MKV format we (encoders and users) have become accustomed to. We hope you now understand why this solution is attractive for some users and providers alike and that there are trade-offs to be made.

We'll lump AnimeTosho and Nyaa together for this section despite the differences in their mechanisms. These "services" are again, provided entirely for your convenience at no cost to you. We may be mistaken, but there also appear to be no direct forms of monetization collected from the user on these services. Consider the additional costs AnimeTosho would incur if they were forced to process the additional data mentioned in the previous section.

Lastly, encoders and release-providers. We'll disclose that we may very well be biased in our perspective here, so we'll cut the chase. Hurling insults and demanding that what we freely provide, at our personal risk/cost, is not convenient enough for you and must be tailored for your particular use, regardless of how common you believe it to be, is nothing less than mere "entitlement" or an example of "biting the hand that feeds". There are of course valid criticisms to be made to make improvements but demanding a solution that would alienate the intended audience is inconsiderate and arguably selfish. Other encoders/releasers aside, we personally beseech you to remain civil when voicing your concerns and be aware of implications any changes.

We hope that this was informative and provided a better understanding of the trade-offs that are being made here and why they are both beneficial and benevolent. None of the above mentioned parties is expending their resources intentionally to make things inconvenient. We'll reiterate that we do understand that some decisions do not benefit every single user and it appears that Trix in this case has further gone out of their way to provide yet another source for this release. You may consider this to be a common courtesy, but we see it as yet another costly measure to (presumably) appease an unintended audience. It may mean nothing from us, but as users we are grateful for this and as encoders, we are inspired. You won't see this much effort from the likes of us (Sav1or) and as such we appreciate the work that goes on behind the scenes to provide an option that may very well never have existed otherwise. In summary, equal parts gratitude and fair criticism will get us along further than what we've witnessed here.

Have a nice day,
-Sav1or

Well said.
Thank you for having a voice of reason.

I enjoy both sub and dubs equally. Sub dub or dual doesn't really matter to me. However I refuse to support or download from a poster that has to pull skeevy tactics to promote their names. Maybe you don't mind it and are new around here but most fans in the anime world don't care for posters that have to pull unfavorable tactics to promote themselves.
04/11/2023 06:33 — Anonymous
This has nothing to do with whether bits sub or dub. Wed have the same issue with Trix if this was dub instead of sub. The problem is calling it optional audio and deliberately separating the audio in two two completely different places and no one else pulls this.

AV1 all the way!
And making 3 separate comments to draw attention isn't pulling skeevy tactics?
It is not because at most 3 individuals (out of the already 80 downloads on gofile) are crying desperately you will change my mind. I already stated my reasons. I fail to see where you see promotion in that aspect, AV1 is literally an unknown codec to the masses and we struggle to reach the highs of the HEVC giants we're competing with even after demonstrating countless times that our releases are higher fidelity at a similar or lower size. So the promotion part is contradictory.
Are you so blind that you can't even see the link a few post above yours to DDL those optional audio files? It's perfectly dishonest to say I'm going out of my way to prevent the DDL community to get these audio files after I literally went out of my way to make sure they had a DDL alternative.
As far as I'm aware nobody has ever pulled a "[Optional Dual Audio]" tag in their releases before me, meaning that I gave the concept I came up with its definition. I explained it in the past, if you need more I can go on and defend my vision again, but you have no right to interpret it the way that best suits your headcrafted narrative and complain about it after.
Let's get that out of the way: I DO NOT give a shit about what others do. Are you a sheep or something? I respect most conventions of the torrenting world and apply them myself: naming scheme, MediaInfo, crc32 (oops forgot it for this release apparently, to err is human), etc... As far as I'm aware there are no conventions for the way external audio files should be handled. After all some people make releases that just contain subs for shows. How is what I'm doing any different? False advertising? But I already told you, you headcrafted what "[Optional Dual Audio]" means.
What you are doing to taint my name is inneficient, you may as well be promoting me by doing that, so if I were you, it'd simply do as some other anon poster that surely is not you, to ignore my releases and move on in life. Unless you are actually so obsessed with my stuff, contrary to what you claim, explaining why you can't help yourself but comment anyway. I really do pity you.

Keep up the good work.

One of cool things about AV1, in this encode for example, is that synthesized film grain may be disabled on playback if it seems annoying to eyes.
I did not find such option yet in any of my everyday mediaplayers, but seen it's possible using ffplay (from ffmpeg bundle) with a command like this:

ffplay -filmgrain 0 input.mkv

It's nice to keep reasonable-sized releases with soft-features like this and seed to other people with different preferences.
As a counter-example, I needed to clear HDD space and chose to delete Jormungand by [DmonHiro] - each episode was over 1 GB at 720p to keep it full of grain which I thought was more annoying than artistic, and kept a HEVC "mini" encode instead.
It may be possible to make an AV1 version of much smaller size with grain synthesis that will look close to the source.

AV1 all the way!
I made sure this release would be compatible with grav1synth, which makes it possible to remove film grain entirely and even change the grain strength to your liking!

Examples:
1) Remove film grain altogether:

grav1synth remove --output '[Trix] Tenkuu no Escaflowne 01 (BD 1080p AV1)_rem.mkv' '[Trix] Tenkuu no Escaflowne 01 (BD 1080p AV1).mkv'

2) Add a new film grain table, here comparable to --photon-noise 6 in av1an:

grav1synth generate --output '[Trix] Tenkuu no Escaflowne 01 (BD 1080p AV1)_rem_regrained.mkv'  --iso 600 '[Trix] Tenkuu no Escaflowne 01 (BD 1080p AV1)_rem.mkv'

My release used --film-grain 30 from SVT-AV1, but you can't reproduce that exactly with grav1synth as photon noise tables are constant strength grain and the tables generated by SVT-AV1 are dynamic strength. So it's best to use it only if you want less stronger grain. I advise you to keep some amount of grain in the video to at least serve dithering purposes and prevent some banding / blocking introduced by the encoding workflow. And also for the simple fact that it's an old, grainy show at core, that deserves having some grain to replicate the best viewing experience.
