Could this please be put through?

I'd avoid this, it's a noob encoder using not so great settings.
07/01/2021 14:40 — Anonymous
What about the settings are not great?
07/01/2021 14:47 — JustMe
Tell us which ones are great.

If you don't know then there is no point in my telling you since you don't know much about encoding.

To kind of repeat what someone else asked above, what is so problematic with the settings used for this one? Is it the source itself -- US vs JP BD? No filtering? Genuinely interested...thanks.

What did the Nyaa comments not include?

My personal concern from the settings alone would be the use of (single pass) ABR.
To the encoder's credit, he does link to someone's explanation, but unfortunately, it seems questionable to me, for example:

the other-transcode tool selects an average bitrate (ABR) ratecontrol system. This means that the encoder is allowed to adjust bitrate allocation to accomodate complexity and mitigate the risk of blockiness or other artifacts.
It's actually the other way around. With (single pass) ABR, the encoder is constrained in terms of bitrate allocation, and adjusts quality to compensate.

It seems counterintuitive, but targeting a specific bitrate makes it much more likely that in those low-motion scenes where the eye can linger, that enough bits are allocated to prevent color banding. And color banding is actually much more noticeable than artifacts like blockiness in high-motion scenes.
I'm not sure he's confused, or missing some point:
- he claims that his method prevents color banding on low-motion scenes
- he claims that color banding is noticeable on high-motion scenes
- am I supposed to assume that his argument for low-motion also applies to high-motion?

Anyway, x265 provides a qcomp option if you don't like the default bitrate allocation between simple/complex scenes - there's no need to try to invent your own (questionable) scheme.

It's possible that the person is talking about 2-pass ABR, which is different altogether, but this encoder only uses single pass, and "2-pass ABR" is generally labelled "2-pass" and not "ABR". Also, considering that he recommends hardware encoders (yeah, seriously...) leads me to doubt he's wasting time on a second encode pass.

I see a lot of newbees with a lot of free time on their hands but I would stick with a seasoned veteran that has a lot of experience.

Well do you have any better encodes you could provide any non-torrent direct download links to?
07/01/2021 15:14 — Anonymous
Maybe use the search button in the top left hand corner and find one you like and download it to see if it's to your liking.

I had already done this prior to asking if this could be added.  All other uploads are either quite old and links are long dead, or are months old and sub only (with chances of links still working being slim, and I'm a dub person).

If you go to Nyaa any of the up loaders that are highlighted in green are considered trusted.
You can also look up this series and uploader to see original comments that might explain why there are issues with it.
