gofile link is downloading as .mpv???? mPv? Typo?

Tried DownloadGG and KrakenFiles and they are both normal .mKv

Downloading from GoFile, the file doesn't have any extension at all. Just change the extension to .mkv and I think it will be fine.

Definately says .mpv at the end of the filename.

A quick search gives this:
"MPV files mostly belong to Media Player by Microsoft. MPV files contain MPEG-1 or MPEG-2-encoded video streams usually captured directly from a digita"

Why is it in .mpv when the other filehosts have the same release uploaded as /mkv, and every other gofile DL from here I've tried is in .mkv

I mean this could be a random mistake, or it could be malicious, I'd like to see some opinions from the admin here as to what they think happened and why

It has happened at least once before a few days ago, at least for me:

If it's only twice or a few times and only at gofiles, I would say it's a rare and random problem. Adding the .mkv and the precure plays normally. Once you add the .mkv it could do nothing but play as a media file or not, nothing else. Use another source when it happens, if you like.

This downloads with no file type for me.

if it's showing up as an mpv file for you, your download software is probably adding that.

GoFile isn't properly escaping the Content-Disposition header, so how the filename is interpreted is up to your download software.

My guess is that your client thinks .mpv is the correct extension for MIME type video/x-matroska. Could also have something to do with the apostrophe (' character), which is being escaped as HTML, as opposed to URL encoding.

If the file hash matches what's shown here, then the actual file hasn't been modified, so just rename it appropriately.

They're also not quoting the filename in that header, which is probably why some browsers (PaleMoon at the very least, possibly others too) are only using the first *word* as the filename (e.g. this one would prompt to save with the filename "[SubsPlease]").

AAS I understand it, if a known filetype such as .jpg .pdf or in this case .mkv was malicious, it would need to be executable (.exe etc) in which case opening it would incur an OS popup asking if you want to give permission to said file to install itself?

mkv is not an executable file type. Media files look to be played on media players, that's all they do. Modern media players have been hardened against exploits by being designed to not try to play any data that is unexpected or undefined.
