Thank you, your releases are always very good ✨🙏🏻
I'm glad you don't go for the mini thing, your releases are always top quality 🔥

😂😂😂

Wdym?it's already mini enough

Don't shit on good encodes, shit on the bad ones. This one legit looks very good.

Compare it to any mini or crunchyroll itself and you'll see it's better (even tho he made the choice to keep Erai's subs which are 💩 but at least it's multisub...) and 1.35GB versus 1.18GB, still compressed but not over compressed like minis so I wouldn't qualify it as one.

Just my opinion.

1. Erai subs are simply crunchyroll, blame who's at fault, not the middlemen.
2. What did NeoLX actually do to improve the video? Encoding to 10 bits won't make a difference unless you deband from my own experience.

Do a comparison instead of stating stuff outta nowhere 🤦‍♂️ how do you know what any encoders do to a video? I could say the same about Ember, he just did x265 crf 21 and that's it, but he could've as well filtered or something 🤷‍♂️

>stating stuff outta nowhere
What exactly? I made a question.
>how do you know what any encoders do to a video
Generally by asking or looking at the script (if any). Encoder settings on the media info are useful, however NeoLX removed them.
>I could say the same about Ember, he just did x265 crf 21 and that's it, but he could've as well filtered or something
FYI they don't filter, their "members" have already confirmed that on the discord server

Every release made under the tag [NeoLX] is filtered, and takes me an enormous amount of time to render (usually around 4 hours).
I worked hard on my encode settings and just don't feel comfortable sharing them.

As for the choice to grab [NeoLX] or not, that's on you, but I don't mind if you prefer lower size encodes.

I'm not into competition here, I mainly encode for myself, and release for other people to enjoy ("if" they enjoy my encodes).
No one's forced into downloading anything from me.

Have a great day :)

you didn't work hard enough on them apparently, you can see macroblocking and banding on this screenshot https://storage.animetosho.org/sframes...50.png?s=3

If I'm right, and I think I am, the screenshots from Animetosho aren't lossless and you often see differences between their screenshots, and a frame that has been losslessly extracted from the actual encode.

Apart from that, I've made my peace with some issues that I just left as is because the alternative didn't suit me.

Again, that's just my tastes and I share for people that have similar tastes, and you're free to go for another one, I think there's enough encodes to please everyone's tastes :)

The screenshots here should be lossless. Note that they are decoded and rendered via libav, so if you're using a different renderer, you could get different results.
If you do notice what you believe to be loss (or other defects) however, please point to an example screenshot here and provide an image of what the screenshot should be. Info, such as the software (including version) used to decode/render the frame, also helps me investigate the issue.
Thanks, and appreciate your contribution!

Hello Admin, first, let me thank you for everything you do! <3

That being said, I disagree with your comment saying it "should" be lossless, because the difference is enormous.

Here is a comparison (I didn't enable the subtitles but well, it's the same frame) : https://slow.pics/c/18lHnqmj

Mine was extracted using MPC-HC (17:21 min into the video, MPC-HC 1.9.24 64bit) and I don't even know if it produces lossless pngs (?) but the difference is noticeable (mostly colors and artifacts).

Hopefully that'll help investigating the issue, but yeah, my point was just that rather than trust screenshots, it's best to just download the thing to see what it actually looks like before starting to call out imaginary issues lol

Cheers!

The artifacts are still there tho

As said previously, I made my peace with keeping some artifacts because removing them would just do worse (in my point of view). After that, it's a "like or don't" situation, and again, nobody's forced into downloading my stuff lol

Also, don't know if MPC-HC produces true lossless or is just better at taking screenshots than libav that Admin seems to be using.. so on that part, couldn't say.

ThisisLX, thanks a lot for the screenshot and info!

The colours being different suggests an issue with colour conversion (so not a case of being lossy).

The screenshots use libav's (swscale) defaults, which seems to assume BT.601 if colour hasn't been tagged in the video. I've decided to change this to BT.709 if unspecified and height >= 720, as it seems to be more consistent with players out there.
(ideally, encoders should attach correct colour tags to their videos, but many don't)

The current screenshots should more closely resemble what you're getting (you may need to force-refresh if the old image is cached in your browser). Let me know if you still notice any issues.

Thank you, I appreciate it and will definitely come back to you if I still notice issues in the future! :D

4 hours really isn't an enormous amount of time. That's actually on average a lot shorter time frame than most of my encodes. Some filter chains bottleneck encode speed so much that I've spent as much as 20 hours on a single episode or a week on a single movie.

Depends on the config you have, the script you run, the encode settings and codecs you use.. it can vary, but if you spend 20 hours on these encodes of yours, you have my admiration (my longuest was 10 hours, and I actually said 4h as an average, it varies between 3 and 6 with my actual desktop config, 10 was on my previous one lol and the actual one is already 6 years old, gotta change someday haha :D)
10/05/2023 20:48 — Anonymous
there are genuinely good encoders running on 3rd gen i3s out there, you really need to up your game
09/05/2023 19:00 — Anonymous
NeoLX encode is worse than Crunchyroll itself. Not worth sacrificing quality only to save 120 MB.
09/05/2023 19:40 — Anonymous
Prove it then, comps.
09/05/2023 21:30 — Anonymous
you're also giving up any compatibility

Huh.. Thanks to those who enjoy these releases, and the others, I'm sure you'll find encodes you like and it's fine if you don't like these.. but please, can you not go berserk on my comment section?

Have a good day anyways!

So you mind sharing your encoding process?
10/05/2023 10:30 *ThisisLX
Uploading sometimes, as of now, My Hero Academia and Demon Slayer.
Sure !

First episode process :

1. Find the best sources for both audio and video, and analyse the video (dark ? grainy ? banding ? blocky ? ...)
2. Write a basic script that focuses on the issues that I found, and render the video file.
3. Merge the filtered video with the audio and subtitles/fonts/chapter file..
4. Release and see what the feedbacks are.

I basically just rewrite the script after that for the next two episodes (up to episode 3) and then, keep the same all the way.
I'd just adapt some of the encoding settings afterwards as the video quality of the source I picked shouldn't change much after that first few episodes (unless it's NF and they play with their bitrate much).

I don't think this process is different from any other encoding groups out there.. but let me know if it is, it's still nice to learn new ways to do stuff :)

can we have a look at the scripts?

x264 settings too
