Based on the Ikaos release ( https://nyaa.si/view/1331089 ) keeping the 1989 audio (modified by me) and of course, the video's filtered.
This was just an experiment, but let me know if you like it 👀

Re-enoded and filtered an already filtered encode...

09/12/2024 17:56 *ThisisLX
No worries, I'm able to pick releases and Ikaos did great with his encode/filtering.
That being said, i thought I could do some more, and I did.
I believe my release is even better than the original, while maintaining quality at its peak.

Rather than my release, you should worry about mini-encodes.
Did you know that when the episode is received by CR/AMZN/NF, they immediately encode them before releasing it on their website? :O

SHOCK! You should go complain about mini-encodes that are encoding already encoded rips into much shittier encodes :O
Quick, quick! You have work to do!

:')
09/12/2024 18:16 — Anonymous
people who knows about encoding usually encode from the source (bdmv, bdremux, web-dl) not from encodes.
09/12/2024 18:22 *ThisisLX
Tell me if I'm wrong, but the great SCY released Attack on Titan back in the days, from a WEB source : https://nyaa.si/view/1361264
Then, would you say about SCY that he doesn't know shit about encoding/filtering?

After all, "WEB" are all encodes from the distributors, so what..?
Shame on SCY for reencoding and filtering an already encoded source?

You should probably avoid commenting about stuff you don't know shit about.

If I believed that Ikaos's release wouldn't end up great or that my work would deteriorate DBZ's episodes, I would've used another source or wouldn't have released those experiments.
09/12/2024 20:29 — Anonymous
if you can't tell the difference between web-dl and webrips, you're in no position to give lecture about encodes in general. SCY uses web-dl (source) to encode not from another encodes like u. Also, u're nowhere near SCY level so please don't use them as comparison. sorry. it's okay if you think your releases are great but that doesn't mean everyone has to agree with you.
09/12/2024 20:32 — Anonymous
Thumbs up.
09/12/2024 20:43 *ThisisLX
What can't your small chicken brain understand in what I said?

Everything you can get, whether it's Web-DL or Web-RIP are ENCODES.
Only production files can be called "source", and surprise, you can't have them.
Also SCY was just an example, where did I compare myself to them?

"It's okay if you think your releases are great but that doesn't mean everyone has to agree with you."
=> Sure, but then prove your point if you're going to comment? I'm guessing that you haven't even watched it, and simply complained about it being an encode of an already encoded and filtered source. Okay, sure, but have you got anything to say at all about the video itself? If you do, feel free to share your opinion and preferably with comparisons & argumentation, else (I'll say it again), you should avoid talking about things you don't know anything about (and clearly haven't even watched).
09/12/2024 20:53 — Anonymous
yeah, I don't need to check the quality of re-encodes. it's pretty self-explanatory.
09/12/2024 20:55 — ThisisLX
Thank you for proving my point, useless comment as I thought.
09/12/2024 20:58 — Anonymous
no problem, but I think you need to find out why encoders usually doesn't encode from another encodes.
09/12/2024 21:10 — ThisisLX
As an encoder, I can safely say that it depends on the source.

I'd agree if the source was an HEVC encode from a WEB source for example. Ikaos's release is far from that.

In any case, the encoder's choice for is the encoders choice, just like viewers can choose the encode they want to watch. At least, be able to justify your comments tho.
09/12/2024 21:18 — Anonymous
I gave up I was hoping you'd understand. Your encodes sucks because you simply encoded another encodes. Phew. If you can't understand that then you're not a (good) encoder.
09/12/2024 21:20 — ThisisLX
Yeah well your comment is useless since you haven't even watched the encode. Stop talking about stuff you don't know or haven't watched.
09/12/2024 21:22 — Anonymous
^^ my man it's you who doesn't know what uou're talking about.
09/12/2024 21:24 — ThisisLX
Yeah OK 🙋🏻‍♂️
09/12/2024 20:48 — Anonymous
scy's aot descales are wrong btw
09/12/2024 21:11 — Anonymous
Here's a simple diagram:
SCY : Source -> Encodes (Good)
You : Source -> Ikaos' Encodes -> Your encodes (not good)

If you upload this torrent on Nyaa, your torrent will be marked as remake (red).
09/12/2024 21:23 — ThisisLX
Is this Nyaa? No? Then why would I care?
09/12/2024 21:30 — Anonymous
Well clearly you don't care about quality and yet you're claiming your releases are great. it's weird
09/12/2024 21:39 — ThisisLX
Clearly I don't care about quality? Well at least I watch the things I complain about unlike some others who just make assumptions on what they read 🙋🏻‍♂️
09/12/2024 21:59 — Anonymous
most of the people who act overly anal about this stuff are just regurgitating stuff they've read on thewiki.moe/seadex/whatever, which was made by a bunch of people with OCD

i can guarantee you if you sat them down and had them watch one of their fancy "seadex approved(tm)" bloat encodes and a good, smaller re-encode of that same show, they wouldn't be able to tell the difference. with a lot of the comparisons they post, you have to zoom in like 400x to even tell that some pixels are SLIGHTLY different.

i used to be that way for a while when i first learned about torrenting anime, but eventually i realized it's really not worth the significantly more space for what is ultimately very little improvement. i prioritize a good AV1 release now as it both looks great AND is really small. it's nice to not be so hung up on that shit anymore
09/12/2024 22:11 — Anonymous
I'm okay with people enjoying re-encodes but claming re-encodes are "great quality" is just wrong.
09/12/2024 22:14 *ThisisLX
Again, comparisons? Else it's better if you'd stop commenting on things you don't know.
09/12/2024 22:23 — Anonymous
i have plenty of re-encodes that i would consider great quality, especially for their size. you'd expect some of these to look terrible given how small they are but they're actually indistinguishable from a bloated high-bitrate x264 encode of the same show
09/12/2024 21:48 — Anonymous
you can know how to encode and still use a pre-existing filtered encode as a source. an AV1 re-encode of a properly filtered, high quality encode will look better than if you just used the raw BDMV
09/12/2024 21:56 — Anonymous
>Re-encodes
>Quality

Pick one.
09/12/2024 22:02 — Anonymous
you can absolutely have a quality re-encode with little to no noticeable loss of visual fidelity. the only time you'd be able to spot a difference is if you had the original AND the re-encode in front of you to compare directly (slow.pics), and then zoomed in 400x and pixel-peeped
09/12/2024 22:07 — Anonymous
Fortunately, my eyes can still see the difference. You enjoy re-encodes and I enjoy non re-encodes. No problem with that. But claiming re-encodes better than actual good encodes is just wrong.
09/12/2024 22:12 *ThisisLX
"Fortunately, my eyes can still see the difference."

1. You haven't seen this encode.
2. Still waiting on some comparisons proving it's worse.

Until then you can save everyone's time and stop talking about things you don't know & can't prove (or don't want to bother to prove which is the same thing).
09/12/2024 22:16 — Anonymous
It's usually the uploader who provides comparisons tho.
09/12/2024 22:18 *ThisisLX
I'm not the one trying to prove a point.

You're saying that reencodes aren't of great quality and that it's worse than the encode it originated from.

Either prove it or be wrong in silence 🙄
09/12/2024 22:36 — Anonymous
USUALLY, yes. it's appreciated when uploaders do this, but there's no rule or requirement for them to do so.

and as they already said, they aren't trying to prove a point.

since you're the one making claims that this looks worse (which is a weird thing to say since you even admitted yourself you haven't even watched/looked at this release at all) then it's on you to provide comparisons to support your claim
09/12/2024 22:41 — Anonymous
Re-encodes are always inferior, no need to test that. It's a fact.
09/12/2024 23:25 — Anonymous
Maybe if you prefer sacrificing a large amount of space to a bloated encode for peace of mind they are always going to be inferior to you, but for literally everyone else, I am sure (aka people who don't have OCD over pixel-peeping video quality) they would rather take the vastly more size-efficient and essentially identical looking re-encode
09/12/2024 22:19 — Anonymous
they ARE better, for example, if you are a sane individual and you think 40-50 GB for a 12-episode romcom is fucking ridiculous. that is insanely bloated and just not necessary at all.

i can also see the difference, but ONLY when i pixel-peep the original vs the re-encode. that is also probably because i am familiar with good re-encode groups that care about retaining visual fidelity.

if you're trying to claim that you can somehow spot these minor pixel differences while sitting back and casually watching and not actively comparing them, then you are either bullshitting, or you're just cherrypicking bad re-encode groups like ASW or Anime Time and generalizing all re-encodes to their standards (which are very low)

either that or you're basing your opinion off of illegal streaming sites which are almost always garbage
09/12/2024 22:23 — Anonymous
Well, I have no problem downloading 50gb of anime if the encodes are good. Storage is cheap in where I live. maybe we just look for different things.
09/12/2024 21:57 *ThisisLX
Exactly, not every "encodes" are bad to be used as a source for filtering.. it really depends, but Ikaos are pretty safe to use.
Anyways, I've stopped trying to make them understand, maybe you'll have better luck lol
09/12/2024 14:37 — Anonymous
why not wait for color correction?
09/12/2024 14:50 *ThisisLX
Well, besides the fact that I enjoy this version as it is (with the colors it has), I was mostly just experimenting and didn't feel like waiting ages to try a few things I wanted to try that pretty much have nothing to do with colors anyways. That's why 😅
09/12/2024 15:50 — Anonymous
I wonder what sort of filtering you did to an already filtered encode...
09/12/2024 16:35 — ThisisLX
Who knows x)
10/12/2024 06:16 — Anonymous
We are hitting copium levels that shouldnt even possible.

Qestion to ThisisLX
Original aspect ratio for DBZ is 4:3,
So is the ikaos release too, 4:3.
BUT
Files of yours  [NeoLX]  are 3:2
So either you stretch video hotizontally or cut it vertically.
Can you explain?
19/12/2024 01:21 *ThisisLX
Indeed, decided to go with 3:2 (horizontally stretched, no cropping) rather than the original 4:3 ratio.
That's my personal preference, I liked it better this way, but feel free to grab Ikaos's release if you enjoy 4:3 better.
19/12/2024 19:21 — Anonymous
As long as it isnt cut, then its OK
20/12/2024 15:03 *ThisisLX
I wouldn't have gone with cropped 3:2 anyway, no worries.
The point is not to be disrespectful of the franchise but to pay respects with a good encode.
