I was watching the previous series and this new one appears to begin about mid way through the previous 25 episodes. Well, at least that is the impression I got while viewing episode one. Any manga fans out there with a bit of clarity for us anime only cretins ?

At the top of this page is a link for this series which contains a summary and links to articles about it on AniDB (Anime Database), MAL (My Anime List), ANN (Anime News Network) and sometimes Wiki.

This new series abandoned the original ending/arc of the previous anime that started from episode 18, much like how Kuroshitsuji Circus whatever is actually the correct installment to the franchise that followed the manga instead of it's completely made up Season 2. The older Ao no Exorcist only followed the manga up until the 17th episode, and this new series is actually the official 18th episode. They ran out of material back then and hence the creation of the anime only original arc/ending.

Thanks for the info. I viewed up to 16 before watching the new episode and it seemed flow smoothly together. Nice to know why.
