nzb archive has password, what the hell??

I don't think any of these download services usually send a nzb archive unless you accidentally selected to use their proprietary download manager.  And AT only uses 7z archives.

So try again or try another service maybe?

Just FYI, NZB is somewhat like a torrent file, but for downloading via Usenet.
You can see an NZB link by clicking on the filename above.
AT doesn't actually upload to Usenet or even provide NZBs - the script just tries to match links to the Fanzub/AnimeNZB database.

Thanks for the info.  I had read the wiki but wasn't clear on whether it was a stand-alone or database thing.

1. The "General Unique ID" in the filename is it, right?
2. If the format for this hasn't been updated since 2009, is it mostly dead?
3. Why put a password on it?

1. nm, I see it's the Usenet item.  I was expecting more numbers and less letters.

2. I don't really know about if there's any plans for future development on it or not. In general though, you don't want standards to change often, or there can be compatibility issues. 2009 isn't particularly old in terms of standards; formats like JPEG were standardised in the early 90s (although there are more recent extensions which aren't widely adopted).

3. I can't really answer this, but my guess may be to get people to register on their site and/or make some sort of contribution (e.g. posting on a forum) before giving out a password.

Have personally never tried the newsgroup links. We used to match stuff from Fanzub, but now that that's dead, now AnimeNZB.
Would you happen to know if many of the NZBs posted there are password protected?

If you're downloading from town.ag (which you almost assuredly are), the password is below:
THX[town.ag]AND[ssl-news.info]

Ah I see, thanks for the info.

Would you happen to know if non-"town.ag" NZBs often have passwords?
My guess is that AnimeNZB doesn't check whether uploaded posts contain passwords (looking at the Fanzub codebase, it doesn't actually download any content, only the headers).
