If you read The Quiet Don in paperback, software incompatibility doesn't come into play. Pretty good story, won Nobel for literature in 1965.

Nobel Prizes aren't worth the paper they are printed on since they started awarding them to people who didn't actually earn them. Al Gore and 0bama are a couple of examples.
