I don't think Youkai should be translated as Ghoul.

Agreed Youkai is not ghoul.

Of course not - it's a type of ghost that gets angry if you talk near it but is almost completely deaf when hunting you down. And it gives Spirit Box, Ghost Orbs, and DOTS evidence.

Maybe because *multiple* sources translate it as "Ghoul School" (MAL, ANN, AniDB... check for yourself if you don't believe).

Sorry my Japanese and kanji isn't 100% perfect, but it seems like an acceptable transliteration and is in the essence and spirit of the intent. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What would *you* recommend as an alternate rather than just saying "I don't think...".

Ghoul (from Arabic) is too specific and off-target in definition, connotation and semantic.
Supernatural would be closest, paranormal next - though both have many syllables.
Fae (from Irish) may serve slightly better, also Mythical (though it's normally an adjective).

Using Ghoul was most likely geared towards little kids.

It would have went with "A Terrified Teacher at Paranormal School!"
Ghoul is referred to as undead... like "Tokyo Ghoul"
I'm disappointed in the anime industry for not picking up on that.
It could also be the wrong way it was Americanized.

Ghoul also implies creature that devours bodies raw.
Correcting mistake may mean changing much legacy.

Our squiggly text game where the aim is to copy the image into the textbox. All characters are upper case, and there are no zeros (0) and ones (1) in the above image. Apparently bots aren't as good as humans at this game.
