I've been trying to figure out why automated apps won't grab this; it's not that it declined it, but the file isn't even shown (as if it's not an episode for the show at all). None of Sam's recent releases are ever grabbed for me (from here) because of this. The exact same file will be grabbed from nyaa just fine.

If you look at the file info, you'll see a little (!) next to the "series" label indicating that Tosho had to guess the series. If you look at another upload that DOES get grabbed normally, like Yameii's, that indicator is not there. I'm wondering if this is the determining factor, and when searching Tosho "guessed" series IDs are not passed along with the returned data?

In addition, I'm wondering what makes it have to "guess" in the first place. Nyaa doesn't give an option to specify a show outside of torrent/file name and any details you enter. Yameii includes an anidb link in the details; perhaps that's it? If so, sam including that link on future uploads would be a huge help.

Either way, something's not working as it should. The "guessed series" thing is the only difference I could find, and whether that's the issue or not it needs to be fixed. This file should be in the list returned when searching for S02E02 of this show, like Yameii's, EMBER's, and everyone else's does.

Edit: I fixed it. It seems that "guessed" releases are put into a different category for some reason. If you only use the standard "anime" categories, this file will not show. If you also enable the generic "TV" category (which encompasses all possible subcategories of it) it'll show up again.

It's likely because sam uses really dumb file naming that includes the title of the series twice and the season number twice and thus screwing up automation. "[sam] Mushoku Tensei Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 - S02E02" when it should be: "[sam] Jobless Reincarnation - S02E02" or "[sam] Mushoku Tensei - S02E02".

Tosho "guessed" series IDs are not passed along with the returned data?

I'm not familiar with how automation tools work, but this is unlikely the case. The guess mark basically has no effect other than being displayed.

As you mention, Nyaa doesn't have any AniDB integration, so everything is 'guessed' from the name here (the description isn't considered).
The mark disappears if the entry is matched to an AniDB file (hash match), or is manually removed (this is rarely done).

From what I've seen, common automation tools aren't able to use the AniDB info here at all (as they're more tied to TVDB and the like), and seem to rely mostly on search and title matching.

It was the category. Do you place entries with a "guess" into a different category than standard anime? When I had just 5070 and 105070 enabled (the anime categories) it wouldn't grab this. Enabling 5000, the "TV" category (typically anime is under the specific subcategory), fixed it.

Edit: For clarification, I'm using Sonarr. Tosho is added as a standard newznab indexer, so whatever that protocol does is what it's doing - https://newznab.readthedocs.io/en/latest/

It's definitely just using the title. As I said, the issue was these files not being returned at all as they weren't within an anime category.

I'm not sure why it's happening, then. If I remove the TV category and keep specifically categories 5070 and 105070 - the only Anime categories (and the only ones that show, regardless) these listings stop showing up in results again, even full feeds. Once I re-add the general "TV" category 5000, they begin to show again. Logically, it leads me to believe that it is within 5000, but not specifically 5070. If that's not the case, I have no idea why that behavior would occur. It's beyond me.
