The 001 file of the KrakenFiles is a video file instead of a Winrar.

? ? ?

On my system it downloads as .mkv.001 and it's about half the size of the whole file.  My understanding is that split files are not compressed so if you removed the .001 you could probably play part of it.  To join the parts, see notes in the About/FAQs under the login banner.

If your system did not download it as mkv.001, rename or try again.
08/05/2022 02:00 — Anonymous
That's right. You can only play the parts of .001 (when you change extension to mKv). The problem starts with the subsequent files (.002, .003, .004 and so on) even if you rename it mKv extension it won't play unless you merge all them using software (?). Maybe some techies could mention the software because I never had a successful merge with 7zip or WinRar
08/05/2022 02:05 — Anonymous
The About/FAQ mentioned above has a section on joining files and lists some other tools.
08/05/2022 02:08 — Anonymous
and even how to do it with no tools.

I've successfully joined hundreds of files with 7-zip.
09/05/2022 04:05 — Anonymous
Hundreds? You must be young

It took just a few seasons to fill a lot of drives.

Damn..... just thinking of all the rar files Ive downloaded since the early 90s. Easily pass a petabyte or 2. I cringe just thinking of downloading files during the dialup days.
08/05/2022 02:15 — Anonymous
*So that someone could think it was a video file, not that it works well to try and play the un-joined parts.
09/05/2022 02:57 — Anonymous
Well not like anyone with a piece of brain doesn't download those parts anyway
09/05/2022 04:02 — Anonymous
Sometimes its just a naming issues but sometimes files end up corrupted once they were split into parts. When that happens the files from each hoster would all be corrupt. Sometimes you just have to go to another uploader. When files are corrupt before uploading usually they are a lost cause. Occasionally they can be repaired but its rare.
09/05/2022 04:07 — Anonymous
I've seen very little of corruption errors over the years.  Comment when it happens and it might get fixed.
09/05/2022 04:32 — Anonymous
If you download enough rar files you will still come across plenty of corrupted files though its way better than back in the day. Files used to get corrupted during the download process when speeds were really slow but thats rare these days. Sometimes it happens during the splitting process and the uploader didnt bother to test the files before uploading. Sometimes it happens during the upload process. Its not hard to find out which if there are multiple. I try to stick with single files as much as possible. Way less chance of headaches.
09/05/2022 13:27 — admin
I'm not sure if you're referring to the process here, but unless there's a bug somewhere, the splitting here shouldn't be more likely to corrupt, compared to unsplit files.
For reference, the script here doesn't even have a 'split step' - it just injects file markers periodically into the upload stream, so that the host thinks it's multiple files.
09/05/2022 04:17 — Anonymous
I just downloaded them and the guy is right there is an issue with file 1 on Kraken. its not showing up as a part file and its not worth wasting time on it messing with it. Just go to another just try another set of files or move on to another uploader. No one except maybe the original uploader is going to go through the headache of messing with that corrupted video file when there are plenty of other options.
09/05/2022 04:24 — Anonymous
Interesting that it downloads as a .mkv.001 for some people and not for others.
09/05/2022 04:48 — Anonymous
You are completely missing the point of what is being stated. Regardless of the naming being correct mkv001 is downloading as an unpacked video file while mkv002 is downloading as a part split file.  I tested what the op stated by downloading the files from Downloadgig and no issues at all so obviously the issue the OP noticed with mkv001 on kraken file happened during the upload process and the file hoster changes the file. The issue is only with kraken files.
09/05/2022 05:23 — Anonymous
Here is my situation: For me, kraken downloads the files as .mkv.001 and .mkv.002   Both are uncompressed split files of about 722MB each which  merge back without problem into the original file using 7-zip.

Lucky me, but it also means there is no error in the splitting or uploading processes by AT.  What errors are left?  A regional error in kraken where you live maybe.  Or your ISP or OS or perhaps some other problem.

One thing I would recommend to everyone is to keep your subfolder nesting short and simple.  Windows has a character limit for filename plus path and gets fussy without warning if you get near that limit.  I speak as someone who never has any problems with anything.

Out of interest, which browser are you using? I noticed that Firefox seems to stick a .mkv extension, whilst Chrome retains the .001 extension.

Investigating this a bit, KrakenFiles might be trying to do some magic file identification on their end (the uploader here doesn't signify any special MIME type when uploading). Whilst it sends the correct Content-Disposition header, it does also send a content-type: video/x-matroska header on the first part, which likely confuses some browsers/clients into thinking that the file should have a .mkv extension (when it shouldn't).
I haven't tested a full download yet, but I suspect if you rename the file by removing the second .mkv extension and replacing it with .001, it might work.
09/05/2022 18:03 — Anonymous
I also think it's the browser. Firefox dl part 1 as .mkv.mkv - a chrome derivat and 2 download tools as .001. (.002 seems to always correct). I often do see that on android - f.e. when I download hashfiles renamed to txt. It's an old problem/"Feature" https://stackoverflow.com/questions/28874759/ On win I often forward to dl-manager so I wouldn't notice. I did search but found no solution for android but didn't search for long. For Win may that does help: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/ques...ns/1319659

KrakenFiles might not work well with Firefox but issue must be with Kraken. Downloaded tons with FF with many other file hosters and zero issues. Tried 001 Kraken 8 times with FF and only downloaded correctly once. Tried different downloaders but not different browser. Guessing OP was probably using FF. Never heard of Krakenfiles before OP posted the issue.
10/05/2022 06:41 — Anonymous
It might be a combination - Kraken should not send the "content-type: video/x-matroska" header as admin points out, when it's not an mkv (thought it technically even is but well, it suchs for easy merging).
But most importantly firefox should not rename things just because it thinks it might suit better. I did yet not encounter a site where that "feature" might be helpful but over time many being unnecessary hassle where in the end I simply didn't use firefox to dl.

I'm not going to get into this but I love how people make assumptions. I use IDM 100% of the time and tried FF downloader just as a test after there were issues. Ive been downloading and networking probably longer than you've been alive and Ive never had a problem with FF but its cool make your own guesses and if think I don't know what I'm doing....well cool to that too and your off the wall hypothesis. The admin knows what hes stating at least and using common sense.  I'm done with this topic. Reading below it went south anyway. Just to be clear that's not directed at the admin but the moron jumping on everyone acting like he has networking exp. And dont lump me in with the discussion below. Downloading with a browser or a downloader doesn't matter period. thinking so is idiocy. As long as your files go into a protected locked folder that is scanned properly before use chances of infections are slim. I don't even remember the last time Ive had an infection (if I had to guess maybe mid 90s). Not sure why people are arguing about download methods. If you are that freaked out about what method or download then download to a virtual environment. The guy arguing with whoever that idiot is about using a browser to download  and blaming the browser with no obvious common sense ... just ignore him. You cant win with know it alls who know nothing. Last thing Im saying in this topic.

And your guess seems wrong too! The most important advantage of download managers is that downloads can be paused and resumed later. For example in many cases if in the middle of downloading files with a web browser, connection is lost due to any reason, bandwidth is wasted and files should be downloaded from the beginning again.
Protecting from malware is the secondary advantage of download managers and not the primary one.
12/05/2022 19:08 — Anonymous
Also with a download manager (including IDM or IDA) download speed (bandwidth) can be controlled and managed. Overall download managers are very useful programs.
15/05/2022 20:08 — Anonymous
What did you smoke, sry been away but ... where did wrote something of infections or likes. Also doubt that "been alive". This is a known problem with FF - see the 2 links you'll find above (4 posts by writing). You wrote you did use IDM - you'll never note it there. Maybe you are using a user.js or likes. Try a clean profile or firefox develovers .... with krakenfiles the extension is .mkv.mkv. On desktop there are ways around as I wrote - with android not. Use FF Android browser and download any hashfile. IDK what more to say, could it be you took wrong post to reply?
10/05/2022 17:02 — Anonymous
using a browser to download instead of a download manager is a bit insane.  People who do so deserve to suffer.
10/05/2022 19:42 — Anonymous
Bullshit ^ 10. You do realize there are sites where getting the dl link is nit so easy, esp when using android and other methods are far simpler? No? And every browser has a dl manager included just a simple one. And this bug/feature is firefox only, there's no problem with other browsers.
Last I do prefer to use dl managers too but if one keeps it simple why should they suffer? What kind of wicked thinking is that?
11/05/2022 00:00 — Anonymous
My read would be that you are taking that comment way too seriously.
11/05/2022 14:29 — Anonymous
And do you even read? I dont use firefox to dl. I am just claiming what it is because theres so much wrong in that oneliner - even hard to believe.

meth is not your friend.
13/05/2022 03:06 * — alpeia2
Yes, replacing the second .mkv with .001 does indeed work. And I've been using Kraken with Firefox with no issues except once with a single large file were Firefox reported it might have malware embedded. I don't believe it did & why did the warning come up, I have no idea. :s

It's time for ADMIN to wave the magic wand and make this headache go away!!!
