For some reason, it seems like ffmpeg doesn't like the video stream in these, so the screenshots couldn't be extracted.
Trying the command ffmpeg -i input.mkv -vcodec copy -an -sn -o output.mkv gives me the error:

Could not write header for output file #0 (incorrect codec parameters ?): Invalid data found when processing input
Error initializing output stream 0:0 --

Probably a bug in ffmpeg somewhere.
Update: reported here, see how they respond.
Unfortunately it won't fix the lack of screenshots in this case.

Hm, that reply by mkver sucks. Especially since this introduces you another bug: https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/7799
The question might be why it's missing in the first place, what bad encodings they did use. But anyhow rather than ignoring the setting maybe some option to fill the missing info could be added by them?
Else you prob. just can check yourself with a script that reads the bytes from the file, and if it's 0 probably reencode?

Implemented a patch to ffmpeg to fix this, will have to see whether it makes things better for future files.
Unfortunately won't fix existing files where screenshotting has failed.
