it's not even x.265 tho. x.265 is an encoder. h.265/hevc is the codec here. and nvenc being the encoder for this video.

That's right. Many still confuse x265 with H.265/HEVC and use them interchangeably which is wrong.

x265 is a library for encoding video into the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC/H.265) video compression format.

I love how you and the anon above you are just pointing out the use of x.265 instead of talking about the point the OP made of this (NVENC H.265 1080p) file being larger than the source file. lmao

I'm wondering how is this even possible. The source ([SubsPlease] 1080p) is 370MB and this HEVC re-encode is 440MB?! 0.o

Looks like he's not using CRF (Constant Rate Factor), but the target size. The encoded videos are always around 400MB and above with a duration of 23-24 minutes.

He is just using same encoder settings (certain parameter choices will give you fabulous results like this) for everything and probably all automated.
