The MKV for Episode 2 gave me glitchy playback in VLC. Trying to remux in MKVTools resulted in warnings about how it was a malformed file and the timecodes were wrong.

Extracting the tracks yielded separate AVI Xvid video which played fine in VirtualDub and MP3 48khz audio which separately played fine in VLC. Syncing the 2 playback streams demonstrated the contents' ability to actually play smoothly.

Video was reencoded into another Xvid AVI with VirtualDub, audio saved as a new CBR 48khz MP3 with 192kbps using Audacity and its LAME library.

Remuxed streams with VirtualDub into a fully fledged AVI file had both streams in sync with each other and Aegisub subtitles, with video having slitghtly better compression but negligible affect on quality.

This file could be fed into AVI Recomp to produce a hard subbed AVI to match Episode 1, or mux into an MKV and let Handbrake 'handle' it into a 'modern' MP4, whilst fixing the main dialogue font into some more readable.

Plays fine for me and there were no errors or warnings remuxing it.
You must have got a bad download.

Funny thing is you are the only person who has a problem with it.
If ep 2 was bad there would be several complaints about it beside yours.

I agree with the other anon. I grabbed the torrent earlier when I saw your post and I had no problem playing it on VLC. I even checked the crc and it matched. I didn't try remuxing it like the anon did but I believe him when he said he saw no problems. If you used one of the DDL sites you most likely got a bad download.

It plays fine as is on MPC-HC. Having two players is always a good idea. VLC has unique problems sometimes due to how they do things.
