Is this recap episode?

yes

what else could a .5 ep be? I can't think of any other possibility to ask about.

This is a throw-away with no new comments or scenes. It's old scenes with the fun removed.

Much better to rewatch the old eps.

I bet the studios do these recaps if they are running behind on an episode deadline and need more time, so they quickly edit together a recap episode and air that instead.

if you've got some lengthy saga going, then an occasional recap episode could be useful here and there. However when the entire anime is 12 episodes or something (like this one) then it can only be filler used to give the studio more time to work on a legit new episode.

If you are watching the show week to week, and not downloading them to your hard drive, I can see a recap episode being helpful.
Now a days the studios should know better.

justifying recap episode in a 12 episode series.

I do expect most series to take a week off in a 3 month run. The recap is probably more about giving the stations something to air in the time slot.

I think this only recaps to ep6, so it was ready in case.

As it is, this is a dull quick cut and paste job. If they gave it as a project to an intern or something, it could have been fun like:

1. 'A goddess is graceful and refined' - show her klutz and snort scenes
2. A hero is chivalrous -- show him running away, knocking her down, etc.
3, 4, 5
End - the hilarious 'nude' scenes to theme of 2001

or so forth.

So this is 9 and 1/2? Seen the whole episode, but no Kim Basinger whatsoever?
