When playing on VLC it seems to be broken. Lagging too much and not showing any picture actually. Is there a fix?
26/02/2019 18:41 — Anonymous
Yeah. Don't use VLC.
26/02/2019 20:59 — Anonymous
lol :D

To be fair VLC handles corrupted sections of videos like a champ. It skips to the next 'good' block, whereas MPC jumps to the very end of the file. Still, mpc FTW.

Typically, the only fix is to make sure your version of VLC is up to date.  If the problem is happening with just one episode you could try re-downloading that ep.

It's better to have a second video player available on your system.  Like k-lite.

Link to K-lite:

Or look for a different version of this show.

Nyahaha! #FelineYogi@irc.rizon.net
The general advice starting from 2018 is to use mpv.

Actually, I wouldn't recommend mpv at AT.  High end users who don't mind writing scripts and know about forks and what it means to not have a GUI will already know about mpv.  VLC users?  Not so much, maybe.

As for K-lite, MPC-HC felt they had a mature product and moved on but K-lite has committed to updating MPC-HC if it ever proved necessary --not that it ever will be.  The updates are in the codecs, libraries and settings, for which K-lite produces frequent updates.  K-lite also provides better installation and forum help.  Additionally, MPC-HC is a better educational tool to learn what kind of things a video player can do.

Read the mpv FAQ and you'll know if it's something you'll want to look in to, or run away from.

  https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/wiki..._OSCOSDGUI

(Frankly, I don't enjoy using mpv either.  I don't have the time for it.)

mpv can be used right out of the box with no scripting or setting changes.

If you really want to configure it, there are hundreds of scripts available to download and use without the need of doing anything yourself.

If you must have a GUI, then SMPlayer is a GUI frontend for mpv that works fairly nice.

Just grab mpc-qt if you're lazy or just a casual user.
mpc-qt is mpv with basic MPC-HC GUI.
Also avoid VLC, SVP, and KMP.
01/03/2019 08:58 — Anonymous
you mean SMP not SVP
mpc-qt GUI is WIP. i wouldn't recommend that to new users. also VLC/SMP/KMP have fully functional and stable GUI and they are fully capable as media players. lol. mpc-qt over those three. mpv shillers if you are that desperate for people to move to mpv, then advise them to use SMP (uses mpv) which is welcoming for new users, has a comfortable GUI.

The fact is that mpv actually cares about not breaking less popular video formats. VLC breaking 10-bit 4:4:4 in its most recent release(s) is absolutely terrible, and MPC-HC's last official version doesn't play 4:4:4 video with some common encoding settings. mpv just works (tm) when it comes to playing video... but you do have to open a webpage to figure out how to configure it.

My recommendation is the recent unofficial builds of MPC, plus xysubfilter or assfiltermod.

Did you even even read these people complaint on VLC, my honey?
This shit player can't even run these 4:4:4 videos properly.
Even MPC-HC/BE would be better choice here.
As I said, mpc-qt has basic MPC-HC GUI.
You would have no problem if you're just casual user looking for good player which can play most videos better than VLC.
SMP and SVP are different players which is based on mpv.
Just SVP are bloated-ware which is full of useless shits for casual.
01/03/2019 10:26 — Anonymous
SVP is not a player. Just additional program for few players. You maybe want to correct that.

Possibilities are endless ...
K-Lite Codec Pack (specially the Mega one) is the most powerful media player for Windows on earth. (Actually its embedded player is MPC-HC)
The one media player which everyone should have is K-Lite Codec Pack and it's also good practice to have one or two other players installed as backup. PotPlayer or VLC are recommended to be installed alongside K-Lite Codec Pack.

I recently tried PotPlayer on a few .mkv files and an .mp4 file, works flawlessly and smooth.
It's officially an addition to my set of multimedia utilities and applications :)

K-Lite +1

PotPlayer ++1

fucking 4:4:4, MTBB wont change that. anyways if you want to continue using vlc with this type of releases then upgrade your hardware.
27/02/2019 04:06 — Anonymous
VLC can't play 4:4:4? wow... such garbage.
27/02/2019 04:54 — Anonymous
It can play but it doesn't have optimizations to handle it smoothly on weaker systems.

"fucking 4:4:4"
Yes, virtually anybody agrees. No need to argue. O.o

Wow. My old Vista 32bit laptop can play this. Is your rig Win 98 512-Ram or something?

;)

VLC's problems with this video will be fixed in its next release.

Thanks to all who commented.  It was interesting and helpful.  I'm going to try a couple of those ideas.
