Girls Band Cry won best original anime of 2024 title:

Any yahoo can start an X page and claim anything they want. It's highly doubtful that the vast majority of anime fans would vote for GBC as being #1.
28/02/2025 17:31 — Anonymous
Anime Corner site is far more established than a yahoo, it's just their Twitter feed where the result was first posted. Here is their static webpage:

Overall GBC didn't rank in the top 20. As far as the original anime of 2024 it looks like a joke with one of the candidates even being a 3rd season (not original for 2024.) There were less than 10,000 votes in that category, not representative of the majority of anime fans seeing as the majority never heard of the site. It looks like a site for teeny boppers.
28/02/2025 22:41 — Anonymous
> one of the candidates even being a 3rd season (not original for 2024.)

Original means a production not being based on pre-existing source (manga, light novel, visual novel, game, etc.) It's really difficult to create starting from zero, without a manga or LN / webnovel basis (which are cheap ways to test waters with the envisioned audience, often for years and if recipe works 100% guaranteed, then announce anime adaptation) ... and some studios still manage to mess up adaptations! Toei must have been crazy brave to dive into such an expensive original project as GBC.

Anyhow, Garukura x Yorukura (GBC x Jellyfish) collab just got announced today: https://girlsbandcry-yorukura.com/
28/02/2025 23:22 — Anonymous
GBC is still a crappy show and I couldn't get past the synopsis for Jellyfish to even try it. Shows like those are for kids, not adults.
28/02/2025 23:41 — Anonymous
To most adults anime is just the same as cartoons like Sponge Bob or Bugs Bunny. Negative views toward adult oriented anime are much like those toward Southpark, for supposedly targeting children.

Not My view BTW.
28/02/2025 23:51 — Anonymous
IMHO, most adults go for anime like fantasy stories, that would be hard to do as a live action show without tons of CGI. Idol type shows don't fall into that category can easily be done as a live action without CGI.
01/03/2025 00:19 — Anonymous
Dancing, playing instruments, and singing are labor intensive when hand drawn (even with CAD).
01/03/2025 00:33 — Anonymous
And your point is? Stuff that can easily be done in live action is boring even in anime. Isn't GBC done in CGI and not hand drawn?
I agree with the anon above you. Shows like GBC and even a lot of high school shows are boring and are not the "fantasy" type shows many of us cater to. Those shows are mainly for people that haven't been outside much or haven't really grown up.
01/03/2025 23:48 — Anonymous
> not the "fantasy" type shows many of us cater to

Those show are unable to convey much of the so-called human condition. Thus they enter one ear and exit through the other and quickly forgotten. GBC's lasting popularity in Asia owes a lot to its portrayal of characters with down-to-earth problems and how they influence each other for better or worse.
02/03/2025 00:11 — Anonymous
* GBC's lasting popularity in Asia

That's funny, it's not that old to claim lasting popularity.
A ton of people don't watch anime for the so-called human condition, they watch it to escape that. Otherwise they would watch Life Time or Hallmark.

This was all motion capture.

This is a closed minded false narrative by someone that has done zero research born in an era where parents basically shut American animation capabilities which is why for a long time there were nothing but very childish children's shows. Doubt me. Well Find the dated 1980s American/Canadian movie called Heavy Metal and you will see what kind of things we could be released. Most cartoons in general were also based toward older teens and more adult oriented too. In the 90s and 2000s parents started suing media companies because they didnt like what their kids were watching so the laws of what could be releases (especially with anything animated) got really strict. It wasnt until streaming services that the laws started to become more la again in the U.S. at least. Cant speak for elsewhere.
Its not that the Japanese are just better.  They are just more liberal with media. The fact that the U.S. destroys every other country with overall quality of movies and overall worldwide income made with movies proves we have the capability.

Strict laws can hamper media in any country
01/03/2025 01:36 — Anonymous
Exactly, even the 3 Stooges was considered too violent. Good older cartoons like Heckle and Jeckle, Bugs Bunny, the Road Runner and others were banned for violence, racism etc and newer versions were "sanitized".
Heavy Metal is a great animation with a good soundtrack.

Quality or Quantity?
Rough Draft Studios can be seen in almost every American cartoon closing credits. Even though the company was started in California the bulk of animation comes from the South Korea studio. They have better animators and a faster turn around time. Almost everything in The United States is outsourced. Even if everything is done in another country as long as the corporate office is in America it's still and "American Company" or "Made in America". Sad.

If you were older you wouldve seen all the bullshit. A small amount of parents banned together and were going to the media left and right and suing over everything they considered to violent for any kid. It didn't matter if you were 2 years old or 17 years old. They decided succeeded in getting all kinds of stuff off the air. If you werent 18 they wanted to control what kind of teen or childrens show you could watch. i like Thundar the Barbarian as a kid. They got that taken off the air and banned from  network for a long time. They even went after the Super Friends and the 1960s batman, He-man, etc. Parents said they were to violent. Anything they considered sexual was taken off the air. If it was a toon that a female character that was dressed to skimpy in their opinion it was considered to sexual and taken off the air. Wonderwoman was dressed to skimpy in the cartoons for instance and they said it was to sexual for anyone not 18. Much of it was the churches and women with religious beliefs forcing all that shit. They won with the media. They also went after video games hard as well as comic books and tried to get video games completely banned but they lost that battle. I'm sure you've heard of Dungeons & Dragons the board game. It was nothing more than playing a game like monopoly really. All make believe. We just made up stories and imaginary dungeons and shit. These days you'd just be considered a nerd but not in the late 80s. Churches went after that hard. They said it was of the devil and you were a devil worshiper if you played Dungeon & Dragons. Also video games were of the devil. That kind of shit played a big role in when I stopped going to church. All that bullshit churches and parents were pulling was nothing but insanity. They absolutely completely stunted anything animated on tv for like two decades.

Im just glad that bullshit era is over with. Be glad if you weren't alive in that era.

These days its better but still there are some things that cant be released here. Like Gushing over Magical Girls for instance. A release of a show like that by a U.S. studio would end up in lawsuits, firings and maybe even criminal charges

Mobile Suit Gundam was being aired in the U.S. the early or mid 80s. Was my first anime. It was taken off the air for being to violent. Strict media laws can royally fuck things up.

That's a lot of yapp to say nothing.

Obviously you lack common sense. Ive explained it. That shit was back in the 80s and 90s. NOT NOW. I clearly stated that none of those shows or content are censored or banned now. You wont see many of them on very young childrens network but pretty much everything is back on some tv channels. Laws change all the time. Censorship laws change as well. Learn to do your own research. I knew a guy who got a year in jail for a joint and knew people who did years for having pounds of weed. Now its legal. Alcohol was illegal in the 20s. Point is laws and censorship are always changing.

One simple search on google for term like this 'cartoons banned in the for violence 90S AMERICA" gives you pages and pages of link. As far as actual law codes I don't care enough to look for that shit just to appease a lazy person. Those laws are dead and not in affect anymore anyway. It was a bunch of basket cases that just wanted to control the media for everyone not just their kids.

two example links try reading why some were banned. before they pulled that shit there was a lot of freedom with animation but that censorship bullshit ruined mature content animation for nearly 2 decades.

I question your intelligence. I never said you couldn't buy it. The premise of the show is with 4th or 5th grade girls like 14 years old or whatever. I stated it couldn't be produced in the U.S. because of the age group of the characters in the series. If you live in the U.S. I'm more shocked that you don't have a clue to why it wouldnt or couldnt be made here.

> A release of a show like that by a U.S. studio would end up in lawsuits

Sentai is a US studio and they released the show

Metallic Rouge & Ninja Kamui being on that list speaks volumes on the quality of people who visit the site.

Anime Corner " far more established" lmao.
28/02/2025 22:42 — Anonymous
Geez man. Is it really necessary for you to state that every time the show is brought up? Mention once or twice and chill. The show was ok. All time great.? Hell no not even close?  Best of 2024? Matter of opinion but not in mine. You go to 50 different sites and unless there is a clear indisputable winner you may get 50 different rankings.
01/03/2025 04:35 — Anonymous
Girls Band Cry Stan's are insufferable. No one cares about your crappy idol show.
01/03/2025 09:40 — Anonymous
Its silly to attack anime here just because  of personal opinion of like or dislike.
Bottom line (1) is that this anime series is both popular in Japan and is making good money.
While many anime series are not popular in Japan often die after a single season.
Bottom line (2) people who visit sites like this bypass the money making machine that influences which shows live and die in Japan.
01/03/2025 13:16 — Anonymous
What is silly is the 1 or 2 people who come here pushing this lousy show with skewed polls from nameless sites claiming the show is #1 when it is not even in the top 100 in Japan. They claimed the music group is #14 in Japan, when googling shows they aren't even in the top 200 in Japan.
You don't see other people here pushing other shows like this clown does, must be a kid still living in mommies basement.
