Just because some cartoon aired on AT-X, doesn't mean they will be censored/uncensored.

If a show has a censored version, Horrible will usually have the censored version, due to the sources they use.

True, but this is Japan's broadcast censorship we're dealing with too, hence there is AT-X which is their premium cable/satellite outlet.

What I've wondered, and have no answer to, is whether the lure of international sales have altered the course of Japan's anime industry.

My guess is that most anime producers would like the broadcast version to be censored to help increase BD sales of the non-censored version.

I would say that some anime productions have been influenced by international sales, but not the industry in a whole. Most anime, but not all is a package deal. Manga, anime, music, merchandise, & game. So it would seem that most of the revenue gained would be in Japan and the international market would be extra and the only real winner in the international market would be games and not anime in my opinion.

An article I read a few years ago or so stated that for a North America distribution deal anime producers wanted 250K upfront plus a % of sales. This would be for DVD & broadcast rights. With internet streaming things might be a little different now, but I don't think anime is a huge enough market internationally to justify any influence in anime culture.

Of course this is only my opinion, and what do I know?

When people torrent an AT-X version, it's because there are broadcast censorship issues. Otherwise, there are better sources to use.
