I once again watched the original Fruits basket a few years back. I've read quite a bit of negative reviews of the new version. They focus on things like it is the the exact same script, with the exact same scenes, and the same songs. So new art, actors, and singers with a 98% or so copy of the original series.
So I would appreciate some feedback from those who are watching this version and have also seen the 2001 version.

Some people really hated the remake of Fullmetal because the story was so different. And I have been a bit letdown when a continuation of an older series tries to imitate the anime style from years ago. I am open to the idea it might be a spoilers problem.
Your input is welcome to help me decide if I should squeeze this one in to a plan to watch soon category.

Sorry for late reply, I just saw the comment. Well, the new version is adapting the manga, so of course it has to start from scratch. Due to some changes it couldn't connect with the old one. And 2001 was pretty faithful to the manga (except some places). I mean, the manga author wanted new anime to be faithful to her original story. I want to see the original story animated. I would have hated if the 2019 version suddenly began changing stuff too. I mean, it's okay to change some minor stuff but please no more plot changes. I just can't understand the hate for following the manga like the author (and majority of fans) wanted...

In short, as someone who has read the manga and watched 2001 version, I am enjoying 2019 version too. Both anime are good in their own way.

fma:b is universally loved, ppl who didn't like it have never even read the manga. can't say the same thing for this remake.
