Author says: "Continuing this for Rpyleoh.. Temporarily™"

Note: For some reason this gets filtered out by our AT homepage Nyaa filter "Hide Remakes".  I thought that filter was for re-encodes that do nothing more than change an original encode's format, say from softsub mkv to hardsub mp4.  This, however, is at worst a remux adding an English audio track.  In other words, some new content.

? If the filter is going to hide more than something like deadfish hardsub re-encodes, I wouldn't want to use it anymore.  Anyway, now you know.

It gets filtered because it was uploaded in the red category on Nyaa, The red category is not just for re-encodes it's for all all remakes, that includes remuxes of other groups work.

Then what's with the green category on nyaa?

Uploaders are encouraged to leave a complete description of the release on the torrent information page. This is especially true for batches.

Green entries: Torrents uploaded by trusted users are green in the torrent lists.

Red entries: Torrents must be marked as remakes if any of the following applies to the release:

    Reencode of original release.
Non-v2 (or non-v3, etc.) remux of original release using a similar source.
Reupload of original release using non-original file names.
Reupload of original release with missing and/or unrelated additional files.

Grey entries: Hidden torrents are grey.

That's the manual.  But is there anything you would or wouldn't download based on these current color categories?  In past configurations, sometimes.  In the current configuration, I'd say they provide no meaningful consumer information anymore.

So why does this matter?
1. I'd like Nyaa to thrive
2. To be clear about what's what

I've been reviewing the "Red" listings on Nyaa and I don't find their current color schemes useful anymore.  For example, satiricon has just released Nekomonogatari with ReinForce's 8-bit video muxed with Coalgirl's version of UWT-Mazui's subs, producing a subtitled 8-bit version without ordered chapters.  That would interest some people, like perhaps John_Rhogan.  To lump that together with the deadfish in a filter is not what I think most users would find useful.

The Nyaa color system used to be: Blue -judged best in class for that show; Green -trusted provider, White -no judgement, Red -caution, fishy source.  Blue was always a joke, but trusted and caution were useful in deciding to access a new torrent.

Well, it's my bad for not keeping up on Nyaa's intentions.  A "deadfish-reformat" sort of a filter would be nice to highlight new offerings, but that isn't what Nyaa or AT is offering.  I'm just happy for what Nyaa doesn't kill off completely these days.

Thank you, for a sensible non-attitude answer.

And yes, I despise ordered chapters, like what Coalgirls has done with the 1st Monogatari Series Season.

In satiricon's case, he set it red himself which wasn't necessary since he used ruell's share raw. This is red because the person used UTW's video, which has always been a rule even if you're just adding a english audio track.

That's interesting, thanks.  I wonder if he knows that portals like OtakuCop don't even download red listings, as best I can tell.

Actually, this is an interesting example of a fairly dysfunctional rule: It's not there for the benefit of the consumer.  The consumer wants to know if a torrent/file is safe to download and/or "funky" somehow.  If there's a potential problem, red-list it to warn the consumer.  Instead, this is about a kind of homage to others that should be sufficient in the screen credits and any written description of the torrent/file.

Anyways, I think some people are going to be surprised to learn they've been filtering out their opportunity to get Dual Audio, or avoid ordered chapters, or get 8-bit mkv instead of 10-bit, etc. whatever Nyaa's color logic is supposed to be.  I think many people believe they're just getting the simple reformats like deadfish out of the way.
---------------------------
OtakuCop: Actually, I've seen some deadfish there last time it was running.  Either special request or perhaps they've decided the red code isn't useful anymore.
