The Taisho-era Secret part at the end has no sound.

They used CR's video with AMZN's audio, except that the Taisho-Era Secret part is not included on the AMZN version, so it obviously has no sound :/
I guess that, as mini encoders, they're more interested in releasing ASAP without necessarily checking what they're giving away.
01/07/2024 13:33 — Anonymous: "[MCR]"
As a former encoder/releaser I understand the release ASAP aspect. Sometimes I've looked back at my releases and found some things I could have done better but missed because I was in a rush and being a one man show I missed it.
I do smile a bit looking back and seeing my 5-6 year old releases are still seeded.

well, it's EMBER. Better skip EMBER if you want "quality" releases. No offense.
01/07/2024 14:52 — Anonymous
At that point looking for "quality" you have removed most of the groups here, including Judas, Cleo and the other mini-encoders.
01/07/2024 18:04 *ThisisLX
Mini-encodes will always be a "speed/size" choice, but never a "quality" choice... that being said, checking your file before sharing it is a must.

Maybe EMBER just forgot this time, it happens..
01/07/2024 18:21 — Anonymous
Everything by ember is automated and has no QC. They didn't forget, they just don't care
01/07/2024 18:25 — Anonymous
yeah mini encodes aren't exactly known for "quality" releases. Judas at least better than any other mini encoders that I know of. But if you like EMBER or any other group. More power to you.
01/07/2024 18:40 — Anonymous
I've found no real difference between Judas and any of the other mini groups. Judas isn't anything "special".
01/07/2024 18:43 — Anonymous
If you can't then maybe it's time to get your eyes checked. no offense.
01/07/2024 18:59 — Anonymous
Maybe you should get yours checked or actually do a blindfold test. Judas is not "special".
01/07/2024 19:03 — Anonymous
Judas was never special. All I said Judas was a little bit better in terms of encoding minis. But seriously consider getting your eyes checked if you think EMBER encodes are fine.
01/07/2024 19:06 — Anonymous
I doubt you could tell who is who on an A/B blindfold test.
01/07/2024 19:09 — Anonymous
I doubt you could actually see anything with a blindfold on, retard.

Judas use to be the only mini-encode group that filtered. Most others used to all be handbrake automation. So while Judas has became just another automated group and lost what made them one of the best mini groups at one point often times beating non-minis like iAHD, moozzi2, lowpower, Reinforce, etc... that simply isn't the case now. But to pretend there was never a time things were different is false.
01/07/2024 19:08 — Anonymous
Ember's biggest problem isn't even to do with their video quality... It's like there's never a human involved with the releases because it's always so sloppy and releases often have muxing issues and they never get fixed.

Just recently they encoded Heron via an HDR source but they encoded it to SDR without tonemapping and have not bothered to correct or even acknowledge the issues. Other times it's very often confirmed they forgot to mux fonts, incorrectly tag tracks which break automation of language settings, and things like Demon Slayer where they're confused about what season they're even doing.

Most of these are simple things that a quick glance by a human could catch and correct, but they're seemingly disinterested.
01/07/2024 19:09 — Anonymous
There were other mini groups that filtered before Judas and they didn't use handbrake, I should know because I was one of them.

>iAHD, moozzi2, lowpower, Reinforce
lowest hanging fruit

Seems the obvious point flew over your head if you felt it required pointing out the obvious.
02/07/2024 00:17 — Anonymous
The fact that at one point judas' encoders were able to beat unfiltered copy-paste settings encodes just shows how far they've fallen
02/07/2024 00:55 — Anonymous
Yes it does, it's the second Japanese track. When I went to check out the audio there are 2 Japanese tracks.
One has no audio, the other one has full audio. It's not intuitive to find, but it WAS included.

So who is left that you can (generally) rely on? Is anyone left that is not automated and decent quality?
01/07/2024 20:47 *ThisisLX
Mini-encodes are automated because they don't care about quality, they care about speed/size.

1st time watching : Go for the maximum quality (original rip by Erai/Subsplease & co, or a quality-oriented encode a few hours later).
2nd time watching and more (saved on local storage) : Go for mini-encodes for storage capacity purposes.

At least give yourself the chance to enjoy the anime you're watching at full quality once so the experience is at its best.

As for sources, I'd go for Erai-Raws's HEVC encode, they've got a good balance between quality and size (not too screwed, but not too big).
But make your own preferences, try a few and see what you enjoy most.
01/07/2024 21:44 — Anonymous
Erai uses a destructive sharpening filter with default x265 settings on their encodes, which is far from ideal https://slow.pics/c/tcn0111k
01/07/2024 21:50 — ThisisLX
Best would be to watch the original, I was just giving an alternative that is "less" in size, but sufficient in "quality" ^^"
I can't recommend any of the minis tbh so yeah, Erai has my preference even if it's not perfect in any way :x

Thanks for all the comparisons!
I guess I'm not super picky because unless I put my face to the screen I can't really tell the difference between a lot of these pictures. So, I'm very happy with the amount of options we have!
DKB, DB, Ember, ASW (I didn't see Judas on here but I'm sure it would be similar), AV1, and obviously the sources are great, so whoever has the best size and is most complete will be fine -- at least for me.
02/07/2024 00:17 — Anonymous
Judas didn't encode the show
02/07/2024 00:54 — Anonymous
I understand, but I compared this and
https://animetosho.org/view/judas-kime...p.n1840036

I didn't see that much of a difference on my 13" laptop. So between the mini-encoders whoever puts out a release will be welcome in my eyes, and space saving above all else!
01/07/2024 22:22 — Anonymous
Unless you are watching on a large screen 40"+ you won't really see much difference in the mini encodes. Most that come here are watching on their phone or a laptop. Especially with those that watch on their phone file size matters and a lot of people don't have a lot of storage space on their laptop. They are the type that watch once, maybe twice and delete. Those that want to archive usually go for the larger files.
