Here, we discover where the girls got their nicknames. Galko is a gyaru, a Japanese transliteration of the English word 'girl', fashionable party girls characterized by having heavily bleached or dyed hair (mostly shades from dark brown to blonde), highly decorated nails, and dramatic makeup. An example of a gyaru in anime would be Momo Adachi in Peach Girl. Otako is an introverted, bookish otaku, a term for people with obsessive interests, commonly in anime and manga fandom. Examples of otaku girl characters in anime are Erika Karisawa from Durarara, Umaru Doma from Himoto Umaru-chan, Konata Izumi from Lucky Star, and the tragic Tomoko Kuroki from Watamote. Ojou immediately and unanimously got her nickname from ojou-sama, meaning a rich, beautiful, but stuck up, demanding girl. A similar word oujo literally means 'princess'. Examples in anime: Nagi Sanzenin from Hayate no Gotoku!, Louise from Zero no Tsukaima, Ai Emma from Jigoku Shoujo, Monster Princess, and most rich girls with drill hair. http://othertitles.wikia.com/wiki/Ojou-sama
Oshiete! Galko-chan appears to be an anime about superficial stereotypes, the gyaru, the otaku and the ojou (the gal, the nerd, and the princess), but attempts to show how Galko breaks her pigeon-hole expectations and surprising people that she's not some promiscuous good-time gal. Otako simply prefers reading books and manga, but gets her entertainment teasing Galko and bringing up salacious and embarrassing topics. Ojou is a proper girl from a rich family, but not snobbish or conceited. The three get along as friends and discuss shameful things, but things got off on a rocky start when Galko tried to introduce herself to Otako to make friends, but Otako rebuffed her, calling her a "Promiscuous ***** Galko". Galko does not hold that against her and later saves her from the sudden onset of a rather heavy period. Galko apologized saying she was rude assuming Otako must like stereotypical otaku things and the two became unlikely friends.
The questions in this final episode:
- Is it true your high school friends become lifelong friends? Maybe we'll find out if this gets a second season.
- Is it true that people who bring a bento lunch to school have bigger boobs? Galko immediately discounts such an absurd assertion.
