I watched the first 3 episodes and got no subtitles. I'm using media player classic. is there something i'm doing wrong? or is there another player i should be using?

MPC should work, but Nyaa doesn't seem to have any additional sub files, so we simply might have quality control issues - could be wrong, but it shouldn't be this difficult either

A partial answer:  Mediainfo says there are WebVTT subs, a form of closed captioning, simpler than srt.  Ep 10 and 12 shows no attachments and no subs on the preview screens.  CC may require different rendering settings.

In the meantime you can get the subs attachments for the other versions of this show previous downloaded here at AT.

if you decide to use the external srt of another version, rename the subs to the same as the mkv, except ending in srt.

On wiki, the list of compatibilities for webvtt is browsers, not media players.  --That would work for CR.

AT uses mplayer, which usually covers all the bases.

or just extract them current release and rename .vtt files as .srt. You can also use a subs converter.

you need a player that supports WebVTT (.vtt) subtitle files properly. Try MPV or MPC-BE

There is no subtitle on screenshots, so maybe the files have no subtitle at all (although there are text attachments in media info).
You can right click on video (in MPC) and select 'Subtitle Track' to see if subs are enabled.

Potplayer shows the subs.  So does VLC.

Added VTT subtitles as a recognised format, so future uploads containing them should correctly show and extract the subtitles.
As it's a rarely used format here, I never had any samples to test, hence never supported them until now.
