I think subs are often a first draft for the dub that follows and they prefer easy names.

The animation studio fucked up and translated names for the Japanese audio...

The subtitles kept the actual names from the source material.

Hopefully the English dub retains the proper names with Bam instead of Yoru.

As far as I know, for Bam, its because his name isn't really a name at all, its a date. His name is 25th Bam. So that might be part of it.

As for Rachel being Rahel, that might be the writers digging into biblical name structures (it is how Rachel would be said in the original Hebrew) since ToG has some fairly strong inspirations from biblical myth such as the Tower of Babel.

I could be wrong, but thats been my take and what I've seen about it so far.

(also, I've only been watching the Horriblesubs release, is it that they're saying Yoru and writing Bam that's the issue?)

I think that's just how Japanese pronounce Rachel. Like how they pronounce Michael as Mihael.
