7z files serve two main purposes:
1. Download services have file size limits.  The 1GB limit at Peeje is generous.  500MB limits are not uncommon.  Hence, some files like this Jormungand 1.2GB will have to be split for downloads.  7-zip is open source and free and better than the alternatives.
2. An attempt to avoid files being identified and deleted for DMCA, at least as quickly as they had been.  How successful this has been is hard to evaluate.  Admin would have the most informed opinion about this, so if we're using it for other than size limits, it probably has some benefits.
3. If 7z files are tiresome for you, there are probably easier ways to use them.  For example, download managers like jdownloader can do all the unzipping and joining automatically, if properly configured.

It's annoying, but it allows for their scripts to work again. I missed peejeeshare (the only good host) and sendspace not working most of the time :P

I'll gladly take the extra step of right clicking and pressing extract here.

Did you try any other host that admin-san implemented?

My favourite is the direct download from MultiUpload followed by ShareBeast

The last time I tried ShareBeast it tried to pop-up some porno ads in another window. It didn't trigger Norton Internet Security, so legit porno maybe, but I've avoided ShareBeast since then. Is this common with SB, or was I just "lucky"?

Just went on the site and it popped up an ad for theexgirlfriends.com which has a bad score on WOT(website of trust). not porno as far I know (it's a band apparently...) but nevertheless I see where you're coming from.

I personally get a good speed from them and I don't know if people actually tried experimenting with new hosts (more so when they already have a default) so I thought I should mention it.

You're right about trying new hosts. Current favorites will die sooner or later. And any commercial model they can make work for them is worth consideration, perhaps with caveats here for any that might be more -er, adult oriented, since we have a base that ranges from pre-teen pokemon to hmm: what is the favorite series for our oldest and most degenerate fans I wonder?

Of course, I wasn't being serious with that question, but To Love Ru is one of my long time favorites so I guess that's one yes vote. But it was the first season that I liked so much and keep going back to.

Anyways, here's a seriously depraved thought: Breast humor, incest and such may be embarrassing, but they keep Japanese anime from being viable as mass-market products in the west, leaving room for fansubbing to continue. So onward! I'll pretend I didn't see what I must.

I generally browse with ad blockers enabled (plus a whole heap of other blockers) so I wouldn't notice, but I suppose that's somewhat a concern.
I've heard of reports of some hosts causing virus warnings due to certain ad scripts as well.

Those concerned may want to look into ad blocking if it's an issue, is all I can really suggest. Others must simply be dirty perverts and we must condition their minds with kinky 2D action.
