I'm using MPC and something strange happens only when trying to play these files. When I open the files, I here a "pop" sound at first then it plays and the audio/video plays, but the audio is very soft. I have to let the video play for around 30 seconds or so and it goes up to the appropriate level. It has only happened with these four files, none, ever, in the past. Any idea what could cause some weird volume change like that?

My MPC-HC played it normally, and there have been no other reports of problems so far on Nyaa, so it would seem to be a problem with your machine or setup.  Here are a few ideas:

1. The "pop" and gradual volume increase has me thinking more of a hardware problem somewhere, like a failing power supply for the speakers if they are external.  Try headphones --but NOT right on your ears.  Transient sound blasts can cause permanent hearing loss.

2. If you had selected "Normalize" on the audio menu, de-select it.

3. Try playback with a different video player and see if the effect replicates.

4. If you are using CCCP, upgrade to their brand new version and see if effect persists.  If you are using the brand new version, roll back to the previous one.

Thanks for such a through reply.

I use a laptop, speakers built in. I used earphones as well, that's how I noticed that pop.

That normalize option makes the volume so much better, thanks. I never noticed that option before. But, the sound still does that gradual increase when I play it in MPC. I opened it in Windows media player and the sound was perfect.

I will upgrade my CCCP right now.

Thanks, upgrading CCCP worked.

Great!  Solutions are all you can hope for with computers sometimes.  It was an odd problem and there are still several possibilities for the cause given what you describe and what did and didn't work.  I usually settle for solutions.

Also you might want to try VLC player, it uses it's own decoding. Make sure to get the lastest version since prior to V2 can't play 10 bit properly. The good thing about VLC it's free! and has a version for mac, linyx & windows.

Thanks guys. I may get that later. Upgrading CCCP did the trick.

Same anon from yesterday. Are there settings that you're supposed to uncheck or check besides the default when installing the new CCCP? I hadn't restarted my machine when installing the new version yesterday, so I thought everything was good, but I was wrong. The CCCP update made it so I couldn't watch some 8 bit videos (black screen) and 10 bit was blocky and horribly pixelated. I just reverted back to the older version of CCCP because of that.

Sorry to hear that, I can't think of a reason why that would happen but, you can try uninstalling the old version first then installing the newer version (opposed to just installing the newer version on top of the one you have) and make sure to restart your computer. That is the only advice I can give.

Try out VLC or another player. Someone told me that GOM player is good for anime.
Hope this helps!

I just tried out your suggestion and the same thing happened.

Did the CCCP uninstall first, then restarted, installed the new version and restarted. Some 8bit vids played, but they were blocky (really bad). Horriblesubs releases gave me a black screen in the video player (like last time), 10bit vids were also blocky at some parts. No idea. I just left it as default for everything. Didn't mess with any settings.

I'm just going to give up on the new CCCP unless someone suggests settings I should change.

Old version works perfectly, so it's fine for the time being.
