The audio is fucked with mpv; had to use vlc. With vlc, seeking isn't 100% smooth; it's ok otherwise. I think this release has sort of encoding issue. I'm guessing codec stuff.
Either that, or I'm an idiot.

Vlc is using internal build in filters while mpv may use external, depend on your settings and also your installed codecs. So problem may lie in your codecs since vlc did stomach it and mpv not. BUT because sound is AAC which is rather standard format and "seeking isn't 100% smooth" root of problem may lay in encoding settings.
But funny thing is, no one reported smilar problem like you, here nor on nyaa.

... so, my advice - mpv is shit. Use latest media player classic (I am using build purely for anime). MPC never failed me, it have internal filters like vlc.

Either something weird with the audio encoding or muxing. A number of tools think the audio duration is 23:34, when it's actually 23:40. Extracting the audio with mkvextract and passing it to opusinfo shows a lot of warnings, but decoding this supposed 23:34 file yields a proper 23:40 PCM output (showing that the audio data is all there, just possibly arranged weirdly).

Whether you get proper audio will depend on how your player interprets this weirdness, but it does appear to be an issue with this encode as opposed to any player's fault.

the audio is fucked with mpv, because he re-encoded the audio. no wonder it sounds like shit. has nothing to do with using mpv.

web audio is bad enough, re-encoding from aac to opus made the audio sound worse since it's already lossy

Recycled audio ? :)

Only idjuts take lossy AAC and convert it to lossy opus.....
It's like the older days when chumps would convert 128kbps mp3 to 320kbps mp3, you can't polish a turd by converting.
