seem to recall seeing these in mp4 and avi formats over the years, especially the older series. So it wouldn't be necessary to have mkv format if that helps, older formats would be great

AVI needs to make a comeback with old stuff screw HD hate it waste of space when you can DL 100 times more and watch later

agreed - a lot of us just want to be able to watch anime comfortably, and when we're getting files the better part of 1gb per 22 minute episode it simply adds up and eats up HDD space. We don't necessarily need super hi def to enjoy watching our shows.

Have you heard of HEVC? Reduces the file size a lot for newer releases. Though, older releases should get more re-releases from time to time because they get lost in the surplus of new releases.

Seriously the "compression" gains of HEVC are greatly exxagerated. To get same quality as AVC, the filesizes are almost always the same, and in some cases the HEVC has been bigger. Just take a look at good HEVC encode groups like VCB-S and Beatrice.
