Whoever encoded this video as AOMedia Video AV1, seriously go to hell. This is unplayable without converting it to something everyone can play.

Think before you encode.

It clearly says it's AV1, think before you download.

BTW, I'm not a fan of AV1 or dOPUS audio and avoid them both.

KLite

Get better software. Lots of good free players that if set up correctly will play everything.

Or just don't download vids with the codecs you don't like, it's easy.

Common knowledge AV1 is a hardware issue.  It will stutter and drop frames even on new generation Intel.
05/06/2020 21:44 — Anonymous
AV1 runs fine on my old XP machine, my 7 machine and my 10 machine. Even the win 10 machine is 6 years old. What are you running that chokes on this type of file?

What software do you use? What settings?  What processor?

Pentium II, Win 95

Like the other guy mentioned Ive played a ton of avi and almost never had issues. Same with other formats. I never have issues unless the video itself is messed up. So I disagree with your statements of unplayable or common hardware problems. Unless someone has a really ancient machine its usually just a a lack of a codec problem or a shitty codec.

Google K-Lite Codec pack. Download the Mega pack. best codec pack ther is period. Updated frequently.
When install it set it up to use Media Player Classic. Klite will install MPC with the codecs. MPC works the best with K-Lite.If you have regular Windows Media Player Klite will install the codecs to it also. Checkmark everything for video and audio.  Also make sure to choose x32 or x64 for the media player same as whatever your system os uses x32 or x64.

Its a simple install. Klite does everything. All you have to do is check some boxes and it installs everything.

I have 3 or 4 media players but 99.9% of the time I use K-Lite with MPC and very rarely have issues with playing any video.
If you use that and still have frequent issues playing avi or other formats with Klite and mpc and all of your other players then either your processor and/or gpu and memory are under to much load or you have an old ass system.

Don't understand your avi comment.  Are you thinking avi and av1 are the same?  Very wrong.
06/06/2020 07:57 — Anonymous
avi stands for "audio-visual interleave", an ancient and easy to play format.  av1 (read av-one) is a next generation post-hevc encoding formulation.
06/06/2020 12:41 — Anonymous
no one forced you to get this particular encode.

I didn't think either. Honestly I wasn't playing that much attention of i or 1 except noticing someone whine about having issues playing a video and blaming the uploader instead of his own issues instead of some dumbass  nitpicking an i or a 1 and acting like it makes a damn difference and suddenly unable to be played. So figured Id point them in the direction of something that may help unless his issues are purely hardware related.

Either way if you still dont understand you sir are an idiot because avi or av1 the same thing still applies with what I stated. Klite+MPC still plays it fine. I downloaded to test it. No issues whatsoever.

I even stated this
"I have 3 or 4 media players but 99.9% of the time I use K-Lite with MPC and """very rarely have issues with playing any video."""
If you use that and still have frequent issues playing avi """or other formats with Klite and mpc"""" and all of your other players then either your processor and/or gpu and memory are under to much load or you have an old ass system.

If you cant understand that you have a comprehension problem. Point is I dont have issues with any format video with Klite+mpc  unless the video itself is the issue. Klite is updated usually every week or biweekly. So yes even with av1 everything I said still applies.

Trolls I tell you. Try helping instead of being an ass.

The idea that a PentiumII has no problem is weird.  Most people here probably have a Pentium4-5th Generation or better.  The statement that you've played "tons" of av1 doesn't make sense since there isn't much out there.

At least we now know you're talking about KLite, a very standard and well-known product here, so people can try that if they aren't using it already.

You should realize you have a very weird hardware situation and your advice will probably not apply to anyone else.

lol P2 was sarcasm. Haven't used Pentium since 08.
Other an an old ipad (which collects dust) I have three i7 quads (2 laps 1 desk) Win 10 but still old other than my cellphone. Oldest from 09 (i7 920).  Newest 2013.

Currently over 30tb of video media of various formats. Tested of course. Probably triple that if you add deleted, trashed, or given away.   I meant what I stated a ton of avi. If you must know I skim read because comments here aren't that important to my daily life. Apparently they are vastly important to you with you feeling the need to nit pick at stupid things. At least I took the time to help out. The entire statement applies to basically all formats. Klite works. Anyway. I'm one with this topic. Not on the site to feed trolls that run their mouths but never help.

Alliance for Open Media (AOMedia) Video 1 (AV1) is the open, royalty-free alternative to HEVC.
The founding members of AOMedia (Amazon, Cisco, Google, Intel, Microsoft, Mozilla, and Netflix) wanted to avoid royalties for MPEG's HEVC, thus they have developed AV1 video coding format.

BTW, the best and most powerful media players are K-Lite Codec Pack (Mega), PotPlayer and SMPlayer.
It's good practice to have at least 2 media players installed on a system e.g KLCP and PotPlayer or KLCP and SMPlayer.

For recent mid-range laptops and av1, I would only rate mpv without interface as watchable, with smooth movement and only slight glitches now and then.  KLite is ok except for action scenes where it stutters, glitches, and has audio and video drop-outs bad enough that I would rate it as unwatchable.  SMC is worse than KLite, but better than Potplayer.   Potplayer is not watchable at all yet.
