* The second in a trilogy of re-edited specials to the Kidou Senshi Gundam SEED television series, loosely covering episodes 22 to 40.

The Archangel, still on the run, enters the Red Sea, where a new menace awaits Kira and the rest of the crew: ZAFT's amphibious mobile suits. During a patrol flight in the Skygrasper, Cagalli is forced to crash-land and runs into Athrun, who survived her attack on a transport plane and finds himself stranded on the very same island. Not long after this surprise meeting, the Archangel once again has to fight Team Zala, with a fatal outcome. Meanwhile, Patrick Zala is appointed the new PLANT Supreme Council Chairman; he sets into motion a plan to crush the Earth Alliance Forces once and for all, but meets opposition from Lacus Clyne.

Note: This special follows The Empty Battlefield, which was aired earlier in March 2004. It was aired in two parts on Japanese TV on July 27, 2004 and July 28, 2004 and received a DVD release on September 24, 2004. While the story is overall the same, there are some changes to it; it was re-edited, leaving out scenes from the original series but also adding some newly produced cuts, and featuring a new dub.
